Item type:Item, Holographic data storage with a planar-integrated optical write-read head(2009-01-01) ;Soellner, Matthias ;Vieth, Udo ;Hsu, Ken Yuh ;Lin, Shiuan HueiGruber, MatthiasThe construction of a write-once-read-many-type optical write-read-head for volume holographic data storage in disk-based photopolymer storage media is discussed. Its design is based on the photonic integration concept called planar-integrated free-space optics. A proof-of-principle demonstrator was fabricated, it contains a 3mm thick fused silica wafer that carries most passive components for the reference and the signal beam relay in the form of diffractive optical elements, a translucent liquid crystal microdisplay, and the CCD sensor of a webcam. Phenanthrenequinone-doped polymethylmethacrylate was chosen as storage material, a DPSS laser with lambda = 532nm serves as light source. We report about preliminary experiments to determine suitable exposure parameters for holographic write-read operations, and on the use of data matrix codes for the encoding and decoding of information.Item type:Item, Two-wavelength holographic recording in photopolymer using four-energy-level system: experiments and modeling(2014-11-01) ;Lin, Chun-Hua ;Cho, Sheng-Lung ;Lin, Shiuan-Huei ;Chi, SienHsu, Ken-YuhWe investigate a two-wavelength method for recording a persistent hologram in a doped photopolymer. The recording method is based on two separated optical excitations of the four-energy-level system of the doped element, one at lambda = 325 nm as the sensitizing wavelength and the other at lambda = 647 nm as the writing wavelength, allowing for an experimental demonstration of nondestructive readout in phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl methacrylate). Further, a four-energy-level rate equations model is proposed for describing the dynamics of hologram recording. The model successfully explains our experimental finding and further provides a general method to investigate such a two-wavelength holographic recording in photopolymer. (C) The Authors. H. ;Hsieh, M. L.Hsu, K. Y.The influence of different doping concentrations of rhodium on the light-induced and holographic properties of BGO crystal is investigated. It is found that Rh addition generates sufficient density of traps for photoinduced charge carriers such that holographic gratings are successfully recorded in the blue-green spectral range. The measured steady state diffraction efficiency at 514 nm is 0.14%, which corresponds to a refractive index modulation of Delta n similar to 1.5 x 10(-6) for higher Rh concentration. A photochromic effect and nonlinear dependence of photoconductivity on light intensity are observed indicating deep level and shallow level contributions to the charge transport mechanism of Rh-doped BGO.Item type:Item, Three-dimensional reflection screens fabricated by holographic wavefront printer(2018-06-01) ;Oi, Ryutaro ;Chou, Ping-Yen ;Jackin, Boaz Jessie ;Wakunami, KokiIchihashi, YasuyukiSeveral wavefront printers have been recently proposed. Since the printers can record an arbitrary computer-generated wavefront, they are expected to be useful for fabricating complex mirror arrays used in front projection 3-D screens without using real existing optics. We prototyped two transparent reflective screens using our hologram printer in experiments. These screens could compensate fora spherically distorted reference wave caused by a short projection distance to obtain an ideal reference wave. Owing to the use of the wavefront-printed screen, the 3-D display was simply composed of a normal 2-D projector and a screen without using extra optics. In our binocular system, reflected light rays converged to the left and right eyes of the observer and the crosstalk was less than 8%. In the light field system, the reflected light rays formed a spatially sampled light field and focused a virtual object in a depth range of +/- 30 mm with a +/- 13.5-deg viewing angle. By developing wavefront printing technology, a complex optics array may easily be printed by nonprofessionals for optics manufacturing. (C) The Authors. H. ;Marinova, V. ;Lin, Y. C. ;Petrova, D.Chou, W. C.The effect of Ru + Mn co-doping on the light-induced properties of Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) crystals is studied and compared with single Ru- and Mn-doped crystals. Optical absorption spectra of Ru + Mn co-doped crystal demonstrates a photosensitivity shift to the visible spectral range. In addition, a strong photochromic effect, being fully reversible by thermal annealing is observed. It is verified by photoluminescence emission that charge traps could be manipulated under ultraviolet (UV) excitation, as the photoluminescence intensity decreases revealing the existence of the state filling effect. Ru + Mn doping leads to a faster response time during holographic recording at 633 nm and a prolonged read-out process, especially after a preliminary exposure to UV light. The ability to modify the defect structure and corresponding absorption bands suggests the future potential for optical fixing using a two-step sensitization method.Item type:Item, Comparison of the recording dynamics of phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl methacrplate) materials(2001-07-01) ;Mumbru, J ;Solomatine, I ;Psaltis, D ;Lin, SHHsu, KYA comparative analysis of phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl methacrylate) materials fabricated at California Institute of Technology and National Chiao Tung University is performed in order to understand the differences exhibited in their recording and baking dynamics. The effects of a ZnMA dopant on the optical and holographic characteristics of ZnMA/PQ/PMMA have been examined. From the optical and holographic measurements of different samples with different composition ratios, we found that the time to reach the maximum diffraction efficiency has been reduced from 102 to 59 (reduced by 1.7 times) and the diffraction efficiency has been raised up from 0.57 to 1.62% (increased by 2.9 times). We also found that holographic gratings can be recorded in pure PQ-doped PMMA, but cannot be recorded in pure ZnMA-doped PMMA. The higher the concentration of PQ in codoped PMMA, the higher the diffraction efficiency. In contrast, the higher ZnMA concentration in the codoped PMMA, the shorter the response time. It is proposed that PQ serves as a photosensitive reactant and plays a major role in the formation of phase gratings. ZnMA serves as a sufficient catalyst to accelerate the reaction of PQ with a polymer or ZnMA. By adding ZnMA with a proper concentration into a PQ/PMMA photopolymer, we succeeded in improving the holographic characteristic of the photopolymer.Item type:Item, Doped PMMA photopolymer for volume holographic recording(2003) ;Lin, SH ;電子物理學系Department of ElectrophysicsIn this paper, we report investigations on chemical analyses and optical measurements of our PQ doped PMMA photopolymer material. We have analyzed chemical compositions of four different samples: PQ doped PMMA solid and PQ dissolved MMA liquid samples, with light exposed and unexposed conditions, respectively. The investigations provide us a good understanding about the photochemical behaviors of the PQ and the MMA molecules during optical recording. Then, a mechanism for holographic recording is proposed. This result has been applied to develop photopolymers doped with different dye molecules. With changing of dye molecules, we have made three new PMMA-based photopolymers. Their holographic recording characteristics have been tested and discussed.Item type:Item, Two-wavelength holographic recording in thick phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl methacrylate) photopolymer(2012-03-01) ;Chen, Po-Lin ;Cho, Sheng-Lung ;Lin, June-Hua ;Lin, Shiuan-HueiHsu, Ken Y.Two-wavelength holographic recording in thick phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl methacrylate) photopolymer is demonstrated. By using 325 nm laser as a gating illumination during the holographic recording with 647 nm laser, a volume hologram with diffraction efficiency of similar to 4% can be recorded in a 2 mm thick sample. In addition, the Bragg selectivity curve with clear sinc nulls is demonstrated. These results support further applications as recording media for volume holographic device with extended spectral response and selective recording property.
