Item type:Item, The study of the KM gaps between personal knowledge management and enterprise knowledge management(2007-01-01) ;Lin, Chen-Chun ;Hsieh, Ping-Jung ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyIn recent years, there has been increased emphasis on the importance of knowledge management (KM) in facilitating knowledge workers, enhancing productivity, and increasing business competitiveness. Enterprises also have recognized knowledge workers as a key source of competitive advantage. Therefore, keeping daily work comes to personal knowledge mangement, (PKM), is very important for knowledge workers to get a handle on the amounts of information every day. Hence, major role of enterprise knowledge management (EKM) function services in establishing environment, resource, information and knowledge for knowledge workers executing PKM. PKM and EKM were both proposed to efficiently and effetively acquire knowledge. Due to these reasons above, this article deals with knowledge management gaps between PKM and EKM. Two phase studies are proposed in this study. The first model discusses the influential factors between PKM and EKM. The second phase study further explores if influential factors change into KM gaps between PKM and EKM. This paper will be surveyed by questionnaire. And the data analysis is manipulated by using the statistical methods, including descriptive statistics analysis, internal consistency reliability, student's Nest, chi-square test and factor analysis. The study actually confirmed hypotheses mentioned above. That would mean that the parent organizations should put more efforts in amending knowledge management, especially in technology, structure, and culture KM gaps. Reducing the KM gaps in attributing to improve knowledge management activities fosters knowledge workers to execute PKM, which will eventually result in a more effective and satisfactory accomplishment of knowledge management. The major expected practical implication is the benefit of knowledge workers as a result of better individual work performance in KM activity and in the overall organization KM process.Item type:Item, Discovering Workflow-Aware Virtual Knowledge Flows for Knowledge Dissemination(2013-01-01) ;Shen, Minxin ;Liu, Duen-Ren ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceIn order to effectively disseminate task-relevant and process-scope knowledge, knowledge-intensive enterprises adopt knowledge flows to explicitly represent workers\' knowledge needs and referencing behavior of codified knowledge during the execution of business tasks. However, due to differences in expertise and experience, individual workers impose varied knowledge needs on the knowledge flows directed by the workflows they participate in. This study proposes a model of workflow-aware knowledge-flow views, i.e. virtual knowledge flows abstracted from workflow-driven knowledge flows, to provide adaptable knowledge granularity. Moreover, a text mining approach is developed to derive knowledge-flow views from codified knowledge objects of knowledge flows, such as documents. Both task knowledge semantics and task execution sequences are utilized to evaluate the degrees of workers\' knowledge demands in workflow contexts. Knowledge management systems can thus present different abstracted knowledge flows to diverse workflow participants, and facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration.Item type:Item, Project-based knowledge maps: combining project mining and XML-enabled topic maps(2004) ;Liu, DR ;Hsu, CY ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceMany enterprises implement various business projects on the Internet in the global knowledge economy. The task of managing distributed and heterogeneous project knowledge is very important in increasing the knowledge assets of enterprises. Accordingly, this work presents a project-based knowledge map system to properly organize project knowledge into topic maps, from which users can obtain in-depth concepts to facilitate further project development. A two-phase data mining approach involving the ISO/ISEC 13250 topic maps and Extensible Markup Language (XML) is used to establish the proposed system, which can determine knowledge patterns from previous projects and transform these patterns into a navigable knowledge map. The map can help users to locate required information and also offers subject-related information easily and rapidly over the Internet.Item type:Item, Discovering role-relevant process-views for disseminating process knowledge(2004-04-01) ;Shen, MX ;Liu, DR ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceWorkflow technology supports the management of organizational process knowledge. However, workers (representing organizational roles) cannot easily obtain a global view of a complex and large workflow. This work proposes a process-view based dissemination of process knowledge to address this problem. A process-view is an abstracted process derived from a physical process, and can provide adaptable task granularity. The relationships among tasks, roles and operations, as specified in role-based access control systems, are used to evaluate the degrees of relevance between roles and tasks. Next, a novel algorithm is proposed to generate automatically role-relevant process-views based on degrees of relevance. Knowledge management systems can thus disseminate abstracted process knowledge through process-views for those roles in a complex workflow. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. While an increasing number of companies have launched into knowledge management initiatives, a large proportion of these initiatives are limited to a technical focus. The problem with this type of focus is that it excludes and neglects the true potential benefits that can be derived from knowledge management. This paper develops a new metric, knowledge management performance index (KMPI), for evaluating the performance of a firm in its KM at a point in time. We therefore suggest that a KMPI can be used to determine KM activities from the following perspectives: knowledge creation, knowledge conversion, knowledge circulation and knowledge completion. When KM activities efficiency is increased, KMPI will also be expanded, enabling firms to become knowledge intensive. This paper makes three important contributions: (1) it provides a formal theoretical grounding for the validity of the Black-Scholes model that might be applied to KM; (2) it proposes a measurement framework to enable knowledge assets to be leveraged effectively and efficiently; and (3) it presents the first application of the Black-Scholes model that uses a real-world business situation involving KM as its test bed. The results prove the option pricing model can act as a measurement guideline to the whole range of KM activities.Item type:Item, Applying Grounded Theory to Study Collaborative Climate, Supplier Relationship, Trust, Knowledge Sharing, and Performance in an Organization(2009) ;Yang, C. ;Yang, K. C. ;Tseng, S. Y. ;高階主管管理碩士學程Degree Program of Master of Business AdministrationThe purpose of this study is to argue the case for the use of grounded theory as a valid method for the relationship among collaboration climate, supplier relationship, trust, knowledge management, and performance. The grounded theory research method that was employed in this study is a primarily inductive investigative process in which the researcher formulates a theory about a phenomenon by systematically gathering and analyzing relevant data. This research method is trying to building theory, not testing theory. The data that was gathered for this study primarily consisted of semi-structured in-depth interviews with informants of varying industry, scale and management level.Item type:Item, Developing and evaluating an IT specification extraction system(2006) ;Yang, Chyan ;Chen, Liang-Chu ;Peng, Chun-Yen ;經營管理研究所資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Purpose - This paper seeks to establish an extraction system for an information technology (IT) product specification named ITSIES which combines the natural language process (NLP) with the ontology concept and also to evaluate the system's effectiveness in advance. Design/methodology/approach - The development of the system is based on a prototype design and performance validation. This study adopts four classes of IT specification (PC, Unix server, Monitor, and Printer) that follow IBM's and HP's product lines as the baseline information in order to construct the extraction system in GATE (General Architecture for Text Engineering) tools and to examine the IT product specification with other brands and patterns. Additionally indices are adopted such as precision, recall, and F-measure as the matrices for evaluating system performance. Findings - The performance shows that the average recall, precision, and F-measure are all over 90 per cent, revealing that the JAPE (Java Annotation Patterns Engine) grammar rules in the IT domain are reasonably good and generally in line with expectations. Originality/value - The paper proposes an integrative framework to examine IT product specification information and demonstrates that the system is effective for IT application.Item type:Item, Unified knowledge-based content management for digital archives in museums(2006) ;Hsu, TY ;Ke, HR ;Yang, WP ;圖書館LibraryPurpose - This paper sets out to present a new model to avoid the content silo trap, satisfy the knowledge management requirement and support the long-term perspective of developing academic, exhibition, and education applications among various domains for museums. Design/methodology/approach - This paper presents a unified knowledge-based content management (UKCM) model, which comprises the unified knowledge content processes, multi-layer reusable knowledge content structures and an integrated knowledge-based content management system to solve the content silo trap problem. The extended entity-relationship (EER) conceptual model is applied to design a global view of the integrated knowledge system and completely represent multi-layer reusable knowledge content structures for the spectrum of various knowledge assets for all domains and applications in a museum. Findings - A practical case of a large-scale digital archives project that includes various domains of a natural science museum has been successfully implemented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model. Originality/value - This paper integrates content management and knowledge management. Digital archives programs in museums can apply the model presented in this study to satisfy the knowledge management requirement and support the long-term perspective of developing academic, exhibition, and education applications among various domains.Item type:Item, A PROCESS-BASED KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR SCHOOLS: A CASE STUDY IN TAIWAN(2010-10-01) ;Lee, Chi-Lung ;Lu, Hsi-Peng ;Yang, Chyan ;Hou, Huei-Tse交大名義發表Knowledge management systems, or KMSs, have been widely adopted in business organizations, yet little research exists on the actual integration of the knowledge management model and the application of KMSs in secondary schools. In the present study, the common difficulties and limitations regarding the implementation of knowledge management into schools' organizational cultures are reviewed and discussed. Furthermore, relevant theories of knowledge management models are summarized, and a model of process-based knowledge management appropriate for schools is proposed. Based on the proposed model, this study applied a low-cost, open-source software development framework to establish a process-based knowledge management system for schools, or PKMSS. We conducted a 30-day empirical observation and survey at a secondary school in Taiwan. This case study used methods including a satisfaction survey, qualitative content analysis of knowledge discussion, and unstructured interviews to explore the progress, performance, and limitations of PKMSS implementation. It was determined that PKMSS has some value in promoting schools' knowledge management. It not only facilitates the externalization and combination of knowledge and effectively keeps the objectives of knowledge sharing in focus, but it also promotes inter-member interactions. However, this study also found certain restrictions in terms of the classification of knowledge content and system functions. Based on the above findings, we propose relevant suggestions as references for the evaluation and introduction of a KMS in educational organizations.Item type:Item, Knowledge management performance evaluation: a decade review from 1995 to 2004(2006) ;Chen, MY ;Chen, AP ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceIn this paper, the development of knowledge management (KM) was surveyed, using a literature review and classification of articles from 1995 to 2004. With a keyword index and article abstract, we explored how KM performance evaluation has developed during this period. Based on a scope of 108 articles from 80 academic KM journals (retrieved from six online databases), we surveyed and classified methods of KM measurement, using the following eight categories: qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, financial indicator analysis, non-financial indicator analysis, internal performance analysis, external performance analysis, project-orientated analysis and organization-orientated analysis, together with their measurement matrices for different research and problem domains. Future development directions for KM performance evaluation are presented in our discussion. They include: (1) KM performance measurements have tended towards expertise orientation, while evaluation development is a problem-orientated domain; (2) different information technology methodologies, such as expert systems, knowledge-based systems and case-based reasoning may be able to evaluate KM as simply another methodology; (3) the ability to continually change and obtain new understanding is the driving power behind KM methodologies, and should be the basis of KM performance evaluations in the future.
