Item type:Item, Optical Wireless Communications using Visible LED(2015-01-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Liu, Yang ;光電工程學系光電工程研究所The improvements of power efficiency and cost reduction enable light emitting diode (LED) to be deployed in a variety of applications. LED can be switched on and off at a relatively high speed than the conventional lighting sources; hence it is possible to use LED as transmitter for optical wireless communication (OWC). In this talk, we will discuss different schemes to enhance the transmission capacity of OWC. We will also discuss some methods to mitigate the background optical noises. In addition, we will highlight different specific applications of OWC, such as positioning, optical beam forming, etc ...Item type:Item, Passive Optical Receiver for Visible Light Communication (VLC)(2015-01-01) ;Chen, Hung-Yu ;Liang, Kevin ;Chen, Chung-Yen ;Chen, Shih-HaoChow, Chi-WaiWe demonstrate using solar cell as optical receiver (Rx) for visible light communication (VLC). The solar cell is low cost and can convert the VLC optical signal into electrical signal without external power supply. As the response of the solar cell is very limited; we also propose and demonstrate using predistortion to significantly enhance the response of the solar cell Rx. A VLC capacity of 0.4 Mbit/s at bit-error-rate (BER) of 10(-9) under wireless transmission distance of 75 cm; and a capacity of 0.3 Mbit/s at BER of 10-9 under wireless transmission distance of 125 cm can be achieved.Item type:Item, Demonstration of High Speed Imaging 3x3 MIMO-OFDM Visible Light Communication System(2016-01-01) ;Hsu, Chin-Wei ;Lu, I-Cheng ;Liu, Yen-Liang ;Yeh, Chien-HungChow, Chi-WaiWe experimentally demonstrate the 3x3 imaging multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) system, using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation and bit-loading, a total data rate > 800-Mbit/s over 1-m transmission is achieved without using blue-filter.Item type:Item, High-Speed 2x2 MIMO-OFDM Visible Light Communication Employing Phosphorescent LED(2016) ;Lu, I-Cheng ;Liu, Yen-Liang ;Lai, Chih-Han ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe experimentally demonstrated a 2x2 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) system using commercial phosphorescent white light emitting diodes (LEDs) and low-cost PIN photodiodes (PDs). Additionally, a pre-equalizer was used to extend the available modulation bandwidth up to 100 MHz. Using spectral-efficient orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation with bit-loading algorithm, we successfully achieved high-speed VLC transmission at > 1 Gbit/s over a free-space link of 0.6 m.Item type:Item, Passive Optical Receiver for Visible Light Communication (VLC)(2015-01-01) ;Chen, Hung-Yu ;Liang, Kevin ;Chen, Chung-Yen ;Chen, Shih-HaoChow, Chi-WaiWe demonstrate using solar cell as optical receiver (Rx) for visible light communication (VLC). The p-type layer of Be-implanted GaN LED showed a higher hole carrier concentration of 2.3 x 10(18)CM(-3) and low specific contact resistance value of 2.0 x 10(-4) Omegacm(2) than as-grown p-GaN LED samples without Be-implantation. The Be-implanted GaN LEDs with InGaN/GaN MQW show slightly lower light output (about 10%) than the as-grown GaN LEDs, caused by the high RTA temperature annealing process. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. C.GaN-based LEDs with a p-InGaN layer was proposed and fabricated. By inserting the 50-nm-thick p-In0.01Ga0.99N layer, it was found that we could reduce the 20 mA forward voltage from 3.34 to 2.99 V. It was found the inserted p-InGaN layer could also reduce the efficiency droop from 36.7% to 23.8%.Item type:Item, Room Temperature Current Injection Polariton Light Emitting Diode with a Hybrid Microcavity(2011-07-01) ;Lu, Tien-Chang ;Chen, Jun-Rong ;Lin, Shiang-Chi ;Huang, Si-WeiWang, Shing-ChungThe strong light-matter interaction within a semiconductor high-Q microcavity has been used to produce half-matter/half-light quasiparticles, exciton-polaritons. The exciton-polaritons have very small effective mass and controllable energy-momentum dispersion relation. These unique properties of polaritons provide the possibility to investigate the fundamental physics including solid-state cavity quantum electro-dynamics, and dynamical Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). Thus far the polariton BEC has been demonstrated using optical excitation. However, from a practical viewpoint, the current injection polariton devices operating at room temperature would be most desirable. Here we report the first realization of a current injection microcavity GaN exciton-polariton light emitting diode (LED) operating under room temperature. The exciton-polariton emission from the LED at photon energy 3.02 eV under strong coupling condition is confirmed through temperature-dependent and angle-resolved electroluminescence spectra.Item type:Item, GaN-based microcavity polariton light emitting diodes(2012) ;Lu, Tien-Chang ;Lai, Ying-Yu ;Huang, Si-Wei ;Chen, Jun-RongWu, Yung-ChiHere we report the first realization of a current injection microcavity GaN exciton-polariton light emitting diode (LED) operating under room temperature (RT). The hybrid microcavity structure consists of InGaN/GaN quantum wells sandwiched between bottom epitaxial DBR and top dielectric DBR. The anti-crossing behavior of polariton LED denotes a clear signature of the strong interaction between excitons and cavity photons.
