Item type:Item, Ultra-Compact Shorted Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2014) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesAn ultra-compact second-order bandpass filter with stopband extension is implemented with shorted ring resonators. In the design, the two resonances of the structure are separately controlled by electric and magnetic coupling between the rings. Two transmission zeros on both sides of the passband are created through the multipath effect between the 1/0 ports. Circuit miniaturization is accomplished by attaching an open low-impedance stub to each shorted ring. The upper stopband with a rejection better than 30 dB is extended to 4.32 times the passband frequency. The circuit area is only 8.8% of that of a conventional dual-mode ring resonator filter. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, New Miniaturized Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2013) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA new configuration for ring resonator is proposed for bandpass filter design with size reduction and stopband extension. The planar self-coupled ring is twisted at its middle and a short CPW section is implemented in the ground plane for the three-dimensional interconnection. The resonator has two resonance modes and the filter possesses one transmission zero on the high side of the passband. With a pair of open low-impedance stubs attached to the ring, the circuit has an area of only 9.65% of that of the conventional ring resonator filter, and the upper stopband is extended up to higher than five times the center frequency. Measured results of a fabricated prototype circuit show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Microstrip Quadruple-Mode Ring Resonator Filter With Quasi-Elliptic Passband(2013) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA compact quadruple-mode ring resonator is proposed for synthesis of a quasi-elliptic bandpass filter. The resonator is composed of four half-wavelength rings connected to a single grounded via. For miniaturization, the ring areas are overlapped and the crossovers are implemented by short CPW sections in the ground plane. As a result, the resonator uses about 50% area of a conventional dual-mode ring resonator filter. Among the four rings, all coupling coefficients are of inductive type realized by shorted high-impedance and coupled-line sections. Two zeros are created by capacitive source-load coupling, and the response is synthesized by the coupling matrix method. Agreement between simulation and measurement results of a realized circuit validates the approach.Item type:Item, Compact Filtering Branch-Line Coupler With Source-Load Coupling(2016) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Wu, Jen-Yi ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringSource-load coupling is inserted to a compact filtering branch-line coupler for generating transmission zeros. Quarter-wavelength stepped-impedance resonators are employed as the resonating elements for circuit miniaturization. All inter-resonator couplings are of inductive type, and the source-load coupling between adjacent feeds is of capacitive type. Proper source-load coupling is extracted for control of attenuation level in stopband. The realized circuit area is only 31.4% of that of a conventional branch-line coupler. Measurement results have good agreement with the simulation data.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Dual-Mode Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter with a Wide Passband(2014-01-01) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Tang, Shao-Chan ;Chung, Shyh-Jong傳播研究所Dual-mode ring resonator filter is designed to have a relatively wide passband with a miniaturized circuit area. The miniaturization is achieved by folding the ring trace to a spiral configuration. The two degenerate modes are split up by an asymmetric inductive perturbation. As a result, the circuit area is only 29% of that of a conventional ring. The strong I/O coupling required by the wide passband property is implemented by adding an impedance transformer for matching the external quality factor (Q(ext)) with the circuit bandwidth. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Dual-Band Composite Right/Left-Handed Crossover(2013) ;Hsieh, Sheng-Yu ;Chi, Pei-Ling ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIn this paper, an arbitrary dual-band and miniaturized crossover is proposed using the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission structures. The proposed crossover is based on the two-section CRLH branch lines of three different characteristic impedances where one degree of design freedom can be used for implementation convenience. Combining the CRLH implementation approach with the even-and odd-mode analysis results, a simple design procedure is developed. To support our idea, a dual-band crossover operating at 0.9 GHz and 2.45 GHz was fabricated and tested. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulated data. Compared to the reported dual-band crossovers based on the printed-circuit-board (PCB) technology, our presented crossover shows a significant size reduction by about 59% with respect to the smallest footprint found in the literature.Item type:Item, Miniaturized and Large-Division-Ratio Ring Coupler Using Novel Transmission-Line Elements(2014-01-01) ;Ho, Kuan-Lin ;Chi, Pei-Ling ;電機資訊學士班Undergraduate Honors Program of Electrical Engineering and Computer ScienceIn this letter, a novel transmission-line element that is able to exhibit a high-impedance passband is proposed and applied for coupler realization with a large power division ratio. The analysis of the transmission-line element was conducted by its equivalent circuit model and the closed-form equations for the pole and zero frequencies of the effective impedance were derived to help control the passband impedance and phase responses by the lumped parameters. The high-impedance feature of the presented artificial line was exploited to experimentally develop a 12 dB ring coupler, which occupies only 29% footprint of the conventional coupler at 3.5 GHz. Experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation data.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Dual-Mode Spiral-Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter(2012) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA dual-mode ring resonator filter is devised to have a miniaturized size and its performance investigated. By placing an inductive perturbation at an asymmetric position, with respect to the input and output ports, two transmission zeros are created on the both sides of the passband. The miniaturization is achieved by folding the microstrip ring trace into a spiral configuration, incorporating with metallic via-holes and coplanar waveguide sections as the interconnection. The circuit size is only 20.5% of that of a conventional ring resonator. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Dual-Mode Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Asymmetric Inductive Coupling and Its Miniaturization(2012-09-01) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesDual-mode ring resonator filters are implemented with asymmetric inductive perturbation for creating transmission zeros on both sides of the passband. In analysis, dependence of the resonance modes and the zeros on positions and sizes of both the inductive and capacitive perturbations is investigated. Under certain conditions, the even- and odd-mode frequencies for a capacitively perturbed ring are the same as the odd and even ones, respectively, for a ring with inductive perturbation. Theoretical background is clearly explained how the two transmission zeros are split up from the center frequency. Two dual-mode ring resonator filters are fabricated and measured for demonstration. To obtain a miniaturized circuit area, the 1-lambda ring trace is folded into a double-ring or spiral configuration. The inductive perturbation is chosen as the crossover and implemented by a short high-impedance coplanar waveguide interconnection in the ground plane of the microstrip. Measurement results show good agreement with the simulation responses.Item type:Item, Compact Zeroth-Order Resonant Antenna Based on Dual-Arm Spiral Configuration(2012) ;Liu, Chun-Chih ;Chi, Pei-Ling ;Lin, Yu-De ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringA miniaturized and zeroth-order resonant composite right/left-handed (CRLH) antenna based on dual-arm spiral structure is presented. The proposed dual-arm spiral unit cell is able to implement and tailor the CRLH lumped elements easily in a compact fashion. Particularly, the gap coupling between the spiral arms contributes to the series capacitance C-L and the metallic via-hole at the end of one arm results in the shunt inductance L-L. The resonant frequency and thus the miniaturization factor can be simply engineered by the spiral parameters that determine the corresponding circuit elements. The proposed CRLH antenna is composed of two unit cells, each of which occupies only 0.066 lambda(0) x 0.053 lambda(0) at the operating frequency. From the experimental results, this compact antenna exhibits the dipole-like radiation patterns and has a peak gain of -0.53 dBi. The measured and simulated results are provided, and good agreement is achieved.
