Item type:Item, A Novel Method for Designing Information Technology Services(2016-01-01) ;Kao, Yi-Chih ;Chang, Yung-Chia ;Peng, Sheng-Lung ;Chang, Ruay-Shiung交大名義發表Information technology (IT) services are diverse and complex. Numerous service design methods have been developed for designing and developing products. However, owing to the limited availability of useful tools in IT service design, these methods are ineffective. This study proposes an innovative three-dimensional method for designing IT services. The proposed method considers user requirements, an organization's business requirements, service providers' management requirements as well as the decision-making criteria of management representatives to ensure a smooth implementation of a designed IT service. Using this method, a prototype system to improve campus wireless local area network services was developed and tested at a university in Taiwan. The prototype system reduced the need for repetitive authentication and the time required to solve service problems and address user complaints. In addition, the service design team observed an approximately 70% reduction in project cycle time. The proposed method provided a systematic means to organize the design and implementation of IT services.Item type:Item, Build an education resources allocation planning model of school with integrating Information Technology(2008) ;Chen, James K. C. ;Chen, Kevin C. Y. ;Lin, Sin-Yi ;Yuan, Benjamin J. C.科技管理研究所The most important core competences of school education resources allocation is the teaching activities of integrating information technology into instruction. This paper explores integrating information technology into instruction how to build an education resources allocation planning model using De Novo programming for case study. We expect building an efficient planning model of integrating information technology into instruction for school education resources allocation, and using De Novo programming for achieving aspired/desired level base on education resources allocation of school. How we can be in the set budget for accomplishing the resources allocation with minimum cost. In empirical case we rind if the resource limitation is loosen, and De Novo programming and resources allocation project management are implemented, the optimal resource allocation of integrating information technology into instruction will be achieved and the cost of school management can be reduced.Item type:Item, SIM-UTILITY: Model for project ceiling price determination(2002-01-01) ;Wang, WC ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringBefore considering bids submitted by competing contractors for a public procurement project, the owner should determine a project ceiling price or cost estimate to use as a reference point for evaluating the bids. A high ceiling price conflicts with the owner's interests in minimizing costs. Meanwhile, a low ceiling price can jeopardize the project if all bids exceed the ceiling price. This paper proposes a model for determining a reasonable project ceiling price. The model, called SIM-UTILITY, is based on a utility theory and facilitated by a cost simulation approach. The utility theory is applied to reflect the owner's preferences regarding the determination criteria, while the simulation approach is used to generate more objective project cost data to support execution of the utility theory. The advantages of SIM-UTILITY are proven by its successful application to three construction projects in Taiwan. A computerized SIM-UTILITY is expected to be broadly applicable to public construction projects in Taiwan.Item type:Item, Module-based construction schedule administration for public infrastructure agencies(2004-01-01) ;Dzeng, RJ ;Wang, WC ;Tserng, HP ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringInfrastructure projects such as the construction of expressways are often distributed over different regions and must therefore be divided into several tendering packages. The public agencies that administrate such projects manage project packages that must be integrated. All project packages may involve similar work. However, they are carried out by different contractors each with their own scheduling practices. Standardization provides a foundation for more efficient and effective schedule integration, but cannot easily be enforced without objections from contractors. This paper presents a three-stage standardization implementation framework using modularization. A set of network modules that involve normal, repetitive, cyclic, and merging activities was developed for expressway projects. Two computer systems were developed to help contractors use these modules to create schedules, and to help the owner review schedules submitted by contractors. Experiments and a survey were also carried out to validate the proposed framework, demonstrating a significant amount of time saving and errors reduced by using network modules.Item type:Item, Electronic-based procedure for managing unbalanced bids(2004-05-01) ;Wang, WC ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringConstruction lump sum lowest bid procurement is one of the most prevalent methods of awarding construction contracts. For a lump sum bidding practice in Taiwan, after the lowest bidder is awarded a construction project contract, the contractual unit price for each cost item is taken as the product of the owner's estimated unit price and a discounting ratio equal to the total bid price divided by the owner's project cost estimate. This owner-based approach is inequitable because the bidder is denied the right to allocate the risks associated with the costs of performing the work. In U.S. practice, while the unit prices submitted by the bidder are usually considered as the contractual ones, unbalanced bids may occur. This work presents a bidder-based quantitative procedure, built on an electronic-based bidding process for effectively and efficiently supporting reviewing and adjusting the bidder's proposed unit prices for a lump sum procurement project. The advantages of this procedure include that the unit prices electronically obtained front the owner and all qualified bidders are included in analyses during unit-price evaluation, and that rules for unit-price adjustment along with maintaining the total contractual price are included. The novel procedure has been successfully applied to several construction projects in Taiwan and the results have been greatly appreciated by both governments and contractors.Item type:Item, Regulatory knowledge management for semiconductor manufacturing in China(2007) ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Tseng, Ai-Hua ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceThere is a growing need to create trade data and regulatory information systems for manufacturers building new facilities in emerging world markets. These multinational companies must track world trade organization (WTO) rules as well as the domestic rules of operation. A semiconductor manufacturer must carefully monitor and take quick action on regulatory matters. The need for trade and market information and systems is now an integral part of global manufacturing. Without systems to monitor and process the every changing flow of rules and regulations, managers and engineers are less effective in preventing violations or arguing for changes. After China's accession to WTO, there has been remarkable growth in domestic regulations for the manufacture of electronic goods. Likewise, since electronic goods and components are of strategic importance to many of the worlds leading manufacturers, the rule base has become a multi-lingual and evolving collection that is extremely difficult to monitor or even effectively report about. The objective of this research is to study the management of a sub-set of the trade related data and develop a prototype information system for processing and managing trade regulations. A case analysis of the application in industry is provided.
