Item type:Item, 2.4-GHz Tunable Miniature CMOS Active Bandpass Filter With Two Transmission Zeros Using Lumped Stepped-Impedance Ring Resonator(2018-01-01) ;Hsiao, Yu-Chih ;Meng, Chinchun ;Chien, Hsieh-Hsiu Chang ;Huang, Guo-Wei電機工程學系This paper demonstrates a small-size 2.4-GHz CMOS active bandpass filter with two transmission zeros using a lumped stepped-impedance ring resonator. To obtain low insertion loss and small size, four high-Q active inductors using 0.18 gm CMOS transistors only are employed in the design. The measured insertion loss is 2.9-dB at 2.4 GHz center frequency with two transmission zeros located at 2.1 GHz and 3.1 GHz, respectively. By tuning the bias currents of active inductors, the center frequency has 1.4 GHz tuning range and the 1-dB bandwidth can be adjusted in the range of 190 MHz to 260 MHz. The demonstrated active filter occupies a small chip area of 0.47 mm x 0.33 mm excluding I/O pads and has 24 dB noise figure. Thus, an active filter with a preceding two-stage common-source LNA for suppression of noise of the active filter is also demonstrated and the resulting LNA + active filter has 6 dB noise figure. The power consumption of the active filter core and the LNA core is 9 mW and 7.2 mW, respectively.Item type:Item, Dual-Mode Dual-Band Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Transmission Zeros(2010-01-01) ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringDual-mode dual-band bandpass filters are developed based on a single ring resonator. The ring is composed of two half-wave stepped-impedance resonators with short-circuited ends, which are connected to ground vias by short high-impedance sections, providing inductive coupling between the resonating modes and hence bandwidth control. Experimental filters are fabricated and measured for validation. Skew-symmetric feed structure is employed in the first circuit for enhancing the frequency selectivity around the second band. Source-load coupling is incorporated with the second design to create transmission zeros on both sides of the two passbands, greatly improving the performance in transition bands. The measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Compact Microstrip Bandpass Filters Using Miniaturized Slow-Wave Quarter-Wavelength Resonators(2010-01-01) ;Chang, Wei-Shin ;Liang, Cheng-Hsien ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThis paper proposes a novel lambda/4 microstrip slow wave resonator with interdigital capacitive fingers. The interdigital fingers provide a strong capacitive loading so as to miniaturize the resonator size. The resonant frequency is easily adjusted by varying the number of fingers and the spacing between fingers. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed structure, one four-pole Chebyshev and one four-pole generalized Chebyshev filter with 0.05 dB equal-ripple bandwidths of 7.5% and 5%, respectively, were designed and fabricated. An extra transmission zero can be close to the passband for high selectivity and stopband attenuation by using the proposed slow-wave resonator and the tapped input/output structure. Both filters are compact in size and exhibit good stopband rejection.Item type:Item, Compact Microstrip Bandpass Filters Using Miniaturized Quarter-Wavelength Resonators(2010-01-01) ;Liang, Cheng-Hsien ;Chang, Wei-Shin ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThis paper proposes a novel miniaturized lambda/4 microstrip resonator. The two shorted high-impedance lines not only possess the feasibility to be arranged but also provide the strong magnetic coupling between resonators easily. By applying the proposed resonator, the filter with the flexible bandwidth can be realized. Moreover, the spurious frequency can be shifted to the higher frequency by adjusting the structural parameters. The proposed lambda/4 resonator has a much smaller size compared to the conventional one. Two four-pole bandpass filters were designed and fabricated to demonstrate the practicality of the proposed resonator. Each filter occupies a small circuit area and has a good stopband response.Item type:Item, 2.4-GHz Q-Enhanced Lumped Ring Filter With Two Transmission Zeros Using 0.18-mu m SiGe BiCMOS Process(2017-03-01) ;Hsiao, Yu-Chih ;Meng, Chinchun ;Yang, Shih-Te ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringA 2.4-GHz Q-enhanced lumped ring filter with a narrow bandpass response and two stopband-rejection transmission zeros using 0.18-mu m SiGe BiCMOS technology is demonstrated in this letter. A transformer-based Q-enhanced technique is employed to boost the Q-factor of on-chip inductors for low passband insertion loss. The measured results show zero dB insertion loss, 120-MHz 3-dB bandwidth for the passband centered at 2.45 GHz and with two transmission zeros at 2.35 and 2.65 GHz, respectively. The noise figure is about 14.5 dB, IP1dB is about -15.2 dBm and IIP3 is about -4.5 dBm, respectively. The total current consumption is 9.9 mA at 1.8 V supply voltage.Item type:Item, Ultra-Compact Shorted Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2014) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesAn ultra-compact second-order bandpass filter with stopband extension is implemented with shorted ring resonators. In the design, the two resonances of the structure are separately controlled by electric and magnetic coupling between the rings. Two transmission zeros on both sides of the passband are created through the multipath effect between the 1/0 ports. Circuit miniaturization is accomplished by attaching an open low-impedance stub to each shorted ring. The upper stopband with a rejection better than 30 dB is extended to 4.32 times the passband frequency. The circuit area is only 8.8% of that of a conventional dual-mode ring resonator filter. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Design of cross-coupled quarter-wave SIR filters with plural transmission zeros(2006) ;Hsu, Ching-Luh ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringA cross-coupled bandpass filter is designed with quarter-wave stepped-impedance resonators (SIRS) on a single circuit plane. The entire circuit has not only a compact area since half-sized SIRS are used, but also a wide upper stopband because the first spurious peak occurs at a frequency much higher than the passband. Plural transmission zeros on both sides of the passband can be realized by non-adjacent couplings and tapped input/output. Two-port Z-parameters are employed to formulate the analysis of the transmission zeros. An experimental filter is fabricated and measured to validate the design.Item type:Item, New Miniaturized Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2013) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA new configuration for ring resonator is proposed for bandpass filter design with size reduction and stopband extension. The planar self-coupled ring is twisted at its middle and a short CPW section is implemented in the ground plane for the three-dimensional interconnection. The resonator has two resonance modes and the filter possesses one transmission zero on the high side of the passband. With a pair of open low-impedance stubs attached to the ring, the circuit has an area of only 9.65% of that of the conventional ring resonator filter, and the upper stopband is extended up to higher than five times the center frequency. Measured results of a fabricated prototype circuit show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Filtering Rat-Race Coupler With Transmission Zeros Using Compact Miniaturized Hairpin Resonators(2015) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Wu, Jen-Yi ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA new compact filtering rat-race coupler is implemented by a 2x2 cross coupled configuration based on compact miniaturized hairpin resonators. Passband responses with transmission zeros are synthesized by an (n+4)x(n+4) coupling matrix. The zeros are created in the output ports by adding source-load coupling and their analytical expressions are derived. An experimental circuit is fabricated and measured. The circuit area is only 23.2% of that of a conventional rat-race coupler. Measured magnitude and phase responses of the four-port S-parameters show good agreement with simulation data.
