Fix power allocation and successive interference cancellation (SIC) algorithms are realized. The power ratio between different users, transmission distance, network cell coverage are investigated. The proposed scheme is also compared with the HS based direct-current optical (DCO)-OFDM NOMA-VLC system.Item type:Item, Beacon Jointed Packet Reconstruction Scheme for Mobile-Phone Based Visible Light Communications Using Rolling Shutter(2017-12-01) ;Wang, Wei-Chung ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Chen, Chia-Wei ;Hsieh, Hsiang-ChainChen, Yen-TingMobile-phone based visible light communication (VLC) is an attractive method for optical wireless communication. However, the data rate is typically limited by the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor image sensor frame rate and the processing time gap in the rolling shutter mode operation. Here, we propose and demonstrate a packet-reconstruction scheme, known as beacon jointed rolling shutter pattern scheme. The mobile-phone based VLC data rate can be increased to a record 10.32 kb/s. The implementation algorithm is discussed; and the bit-error-rate experimental evaluations at different transmission distances and horizontal offsets are performed.Item type:Item, High Speed Imaging 3 x 3 MIMO Phosphor White-Light LED Based Visible Light Communication System(2016-12-01) ;Hsu, Chin-Wei ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Lu, I-Cheng ;Liu, Yen-LiangYeh, Chien-HungThe phosphor light-emitting diode (LED) has been widely used not only for indoor illumination but for the optical transmitter (Tx) as well in visible light communication (VLC). However, the transmission data rate is significantly limited by the modulation bandwidth of LED because of the low-speed response of phosphor. In order to enhance the data rate of the VLC system, we demonstrate a 3 x 3 imaging multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) VLC system. Besides, the pre-equalizer circuit is used to extend the bandwidth of the LED Tx. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with bit-loading algorithm is used. By using the proposed scheme, the original 1 MHz bandwidth commercially available phosphor white light LED can achieve 1 Gbps data rate over 1-m free-space transmission distance.Item type:Item, Optical Wireless Communications using Visible LED(2015-01-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Liu, Yang ;光電工程學系光電工程研究所The improvements of power efficiency and cost reduction enable light emitting diode (LED) to be deployed in a variety of applications. LED can be switched on and off at a relatively high speed than the conventional lighting sources; hence it is possible to use LED as transmitter for optical wireless communication (OWC). In this talk, we will discuss different schemes to enhance the transmission capacity of OWC. We will also discuss some methods to mitigate the background optical noises. In addition, we will highlight different specific applications of OWC, such as positioning, optical beam forming, etc ...Item type:Item, Passive Optical Receiver for Visible Light Communication (VLC)(2015-01-01) ;Chen, Hung-Yu ;Liang, Kevin ;Chen, Chung-Yen ;Chen, Shih-HaoChow, Chi-WaiWe demonstrate using solar cell as optical receiver (Rx) for visible light communication (VLC). The solar cell is low cost and can convert the VLC optical signal into electrical signal without external power supply. As the response of the solar cell is very limited; we also propose and demonstrate using predistortion to significantly enhance the response of the solar cell Rx. A VLC capacity of 0.4 Mbit/s at bit-error-rate (BER) of 10(-9) under wireless transmission distance of 75 cm; and a capacity of 0.3 Mbit/s at BER of 10-9 under wireless transmission distance of 125 cm can be achieved.Item type:Item, Adaptive Thresholding Scheme for Demodulation of Rolling-Shutter Images Obtained in CMOS Image Sensor Based Visible Light Communications(2018-12-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Liu, Yen-Chun ;Shiu, Ruei-Jie ;Yeh, Chien-Hung光電工程學系Light-emitting-diode transmitter and complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor receiver based visible light communication is a promising scheme for an optical wireless communication. During the demodulation of the rolling shutter pattern obtained from the CMOS image sensor Rx, due to the high signal fluctuation introduced by the uneven light exposure, special thresholding schemes are needed to correctly identify the data logic. In this work, we propose and demonstrate a modified adaptive scheme (MQA) for the demodulation of the rolling shutter pattern. Experimental bit-errorratio (BER) measurements using different thresholding schemes at different illuminance are analyzed. The results show that the proposed MQA scheme can provide much lower BER, with similar process latencies when compared with other schemes.Item type:Item, Decoding CMOS Rolling-Shutter Pattern in Translational or Rotational Motions for VLC(2019-04-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Li, Zhi-Qing ;Chuang, Yu-Cheng ;Liao, Xin-LanLin, Kun-HsienWe propose and demonstrate a CMOS rolling-shutter pattern decoding scheme based on two newly introduced schemes, named row grayscale redistribution and differential grayscale packet selection to improve the performance in decoding the CMOS rolling-shutter pattern in translational or rotational motions. Results show that even the CMOS image sensor is in translational or rotational motions, no significant signal degradation is observed at wireless transmission distance up to 150 cm. The maximum visible light communication data rate at different wireless transmission distances is also analyzed.Item type:Item, Demonstration of High Speed Imaging 3x3 MIMO-OFDM Visible Light Communication System(2016-01-01) ;Hsu, Chin-Wei ;Lu, I-Cheng ;Liu, Yen-Liang ;Yeh, Chien-HungChow, Chi-WaiWe experimentally demonstrate the 3x3 imaging multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) system, using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation and bit-loading, a total data rate > 800-Mbit/s over 1-m transmission is achieved without using blue-filter.Item type:Item, Bidirectional Visible Light Communication System Using a Single VCSEL With Predistortion to Enhance the Upstream Remodulation(2018-06-01) ;Wei, Liang-Yu ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Hsu, Chin-Wei ;Yeh, Chien-Hung光電工程學系The demand of higher data rates has made it attractive to consider a low-cost laser diode (LD), such as vertical-cavity-surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) for use in visible light communication (VLC) transmitters (Tx) due to their higher electrical-to-optical modulation bandwidth, beam convergence, and energy efficiency. Many reported LD-based VLC systems only had a solitary downstream transmission. We demonstrate a 3-m bidirectional signal remodulated VCSEL-based VLC system using visible-light modulator to produce the upstream signal. The visible-light external modulator usually has limited modulation bandwidth. By using the predistortion, the upstream remodulated data rate is enhanced by similar to 2.8 times. Hence, the VCSEL-based VLC system with 10.64-Gb/s downstream signal and 5-Mb/s upstream remodulated signal can be achieved. We also analyze via numerical simulations how the predistorted signal can enhance the transmission data rate by mitigating the intersymbol interference introduced by the bandwidth limitation of the upstream modulator.
