The present study primarily investigates the relationships between adolescents’ perception of peer pressure, peer conformity, internalization of parental values, and deviant behaviours. Moreover, the differential effects of gender and recording of demerits on these variables are investigated. A questionnaire survey was carried out in the present study, with 931 students of schools across northern, middle, southern, and eastern sections of Taiwan as samples. Descriptive statistics, correlation, Two-way ANOVA, and multiple regression were conducted and calculated to process and analyze subjects’ scores on “peer pressure”, “peer conformity”, “internalization of parental values”, and “deviant behaviours”. The results are as follows: 1. Adolescents’ scores on peer pressure, peer conformity, internalization of parental values, and deviant behaviours varied as a function of gender. Males not only scored higher on peer pressure, peer conformity, and deviant behaviours than girls, but also internalized parental values to a greater extent than females. 2. Adolescents’ scores on peer pressure, peer conformity, internalization of parental values, and deviant behaviours varied as a function of whether demerits are recorded. Those who had demerits recorded scored higher on peer pressure, peer conformity, and deviant behaviours than their counterparts, but the difference in internalization of parental values was not significantly different between the groups. 3. Adolescents will engage in deviant behaviours because of peer pressure, which is mediated by peer conformity. 4. Internalization of parental values is insufficient as a cushion factor against adolescent deviant behaviours. The present study proposed suggestions based on the results, in order to provide a reference for educational workers and future research orientation.
