Self-induced spin polarization in active photonic devices without extrinsic magnetism

Abstract

We theoretically incorporate chirality into laser cavities and utilize it to demonstrate circularly-polarized resonant modes. In absence of extrinsic magnetism, these modes may induce a net spin polarization via selection rules when lasing. (C) 2013 Optical Society of America
