Hakka Affairs Council of Taiwan Government is the only central governmental institution for Hakka affairs in the world. The Council takes the restoration of Hakka culture as its mandate. Recently the Council emphasizes the importance of television program and film containing Hakka culture and language and implements many policies and measures. The television program and film is indeed significant because it is more popular in daily life, it is more acceptable to young people, and its dissemination, thanks to the digital communication technologies, overcomes local boundary and is able to reach global diasporic Hakka. The research aims to analyze the dynamics between popular television and film cultures and Hakka culture and identity. In addition, the research also attempts to examine a possible relationship between popular television and film cultures as a mediated channel to link with the formation of global Hakka. |
