This paper reports the scattering of electromagnetic plane wave by a synthetic dielectric made of one-dimensional (1D) periodically stratified dielectric layers along the radial direction. Interestingly, the bi-static echo width of the synthetic dielectric in a specific frequency range of operation is almost identical to that of a perfect mirror having the same dimension. In comparison with the noble metal having significant dielectric loss in optics, such a synthetic dielectric has excellent performance in serving as a reflection mirror but with insignificant loss.en_US
