Abstract: This paper presents an algorithm for constructing a 3D workpiece in CSG (constructive solid geometry) representation from a single 2D isometric drawing. Currently, the concerned workpieces are limited to simple rectilinear polyhedra where any two faces or edges are either parallel or perpendicular to each other, however, the shape of constructed workpiece can further be modified by the application of a wireframe-based approach of variational geometry. Compared to previous relevant work, the proposed algorithm is distinguished by its capability to deal with degenerate 2D line drawings; that is, problems where two distinct edges are projected on to one line can be solved.
