OPTICAL SWITCHES WITH A SUBSTRATE-MODE GRATING STRUCTURE

Abstract

Polarization-selective substrate-mode grating pairs have been designed and fabricated. Based on these devices, we propose the structures of optical switches for two-sided network and one-sided network applications, respectively. These compact and light-weight optical switches with normally incident and output coupling provide better flexibility and easier alignment for system applications.
