The demand for blood glucose test strips increases each day. With the help of the Taiwanese Government’s heavy input and guidance, the Taiwanese glucose monitor industry flourishes. However, Make to Stock (MTS) production type is using demand forecast and build inventory in advance is the traditional mode, expect to meet the customers order. But forecast it's nature is inaccurate. It can cause the high WIP level in production line and high inventory pressure which is harmful to the company. Make to Order (MTO) production type can decrease the WIP and inventory in the warehouse, but it needs the short cycle time to achieve the better order performance. This study is base on MTO and build three experimental scenarios, when production control staff receive the order from customer and then input the quantity the customer need, using small lots and transfer batch skill to reduce cycle time. Base on the selected company H historical data, we compare three performance indices: Work-in-process (WIP) level, cycle time and on time delivery. After the three experiments, the results can prove that using MTO's input and reduce the lot size can gain the better performance then former MTS production way.
