摘要: 本論文主要研究目的是找出一方法討論在非均勻電場影響下,液晶材料彈性常數 ( elastic constant ) 對垂直排列液晶盒的動態響應之影響。我們設計了一液晶樣品盒,具有兩種不同的邊界場條件 ( 橫向場與rubbing方向垂直、橫向場與rubbing方向平行 ),改變不同的液晶材料,量測在電極邊緣點的反應時間,推論液晶彈性常數與反應時間的關聯性。在電腦模擬方面,則是希望了解在邊界場影響之下,液晶分子形變的過程,並藉由模擬的結果,來解釋實驗所觀察到的現象。由實驗結果得知,電極邊緣點的反應時間相較於中心點會縮短約20%,而K11/K33或K22/K33的比值愈大,響應時間會變快。
We have studied the fringe field effect on the response time of homeotropic aligned liquid crystal cells. The response time was influenced by intrinsic elastic force and external electric field. Especially the inhomogeneous electric field near the edges of a pixel electrode and the intrinsic elastic force comes from the large deformation gradient near the edge of the pixel. Due to the different external electric forces and intrinsic elastic forces interaction, the influences of the electro-optical performance were different. In our results, the measured response time of the pixel edge was about 20% faster than that of the center. We also found that the larger ratio of K11/K33 or K22/K33 is, the faster response time.
