摘要: 本論文研究多模干涉光學切換元件(MIPS)且提出對稱性型4×4元件架構。應用多層膜理論和有效折射係數法來分析光波導結構,然後利用波束傳輸法(Beam Propagation Method)來模擬切換和分光的特性。所提出的對稱性型4×4架構之多模干涉光學切換元件,相較之前3×3非對稱性型架構,不但具有一對一的切換功能,且提供3×3非對稱性型架構所沒有的完整一分二、一分三與一分四之分光功能。結果,一對一、一分二、一分三與一分四情形的最大總損耗分別為0.1587、0.1584、0.1659與0.0740 dB;而串訊可低於 -20 dB。此外,還探討了波長漂移、極化不同和因為注入電流擴散效應使折射率調整區尺寸變化的影響。
In this thesis, we investigate multimode interference photonic switches (MIPS) and propose a symmetric 4×4 device structure. The multilayer theory and effective index method are used to analyze the waveguide structure. Then the beam propagation method is used to simulate the switching and splitting characteristics. Compared with the previous asymmetric 3×3 structure, this symmetric 4×4 structure supports not only 4×4 switching function, but also complete 1-to-2, 1-to-3, and 1-to-4 splitting functions. As a result, the maximum insertion losses of 1-to-1, 1-to-2, 1-to-3, 1-to-4 cases are 0.1587 dB, 0.1584 dB, 0.1659 dB, 0.0740 dB, respectively; and the crosstalk is less than –20 dB. Besides, the influence of wavelength shifting, polarization difference, and size deviation of the index-modulation region due to spread effect of the injected current are discussed.
