Recently, smart phones and digital metro maps become more and more popular since the metro maps of big cities are usually complicated. When moving from one station to another, not only the transitions of transportation lines but also the stop stations of high speed trains should be considered (i.e., high speed trains may not stop at all stations). This complicated information is always annoying to the passengers from other places. Hence, the convenience of digital metro maps attracts the human attention because the optimal transition information can be determined by hand held devices. However, the screens of these devices are usually small since the devices are designed for mobility. Displaying complicated maps on such areas has to crop off or simplify some parts of the contents. The goal of this project is to visualize metro maps and all transition information on smart phones. Due to the limited space of screens, displaying all contents on the device is challenging. In addition, an efficient algorithm should be introduced to solve the problem since the computation of smart phones is usually powerless. Therefore, we try to achieve the aim by using focus+context technique. The important parts of metro maps are shown in a larger space while the remaining parts are in a smaller space. Since the irregular deformations are applied to the metro maps, we also have to preserve the relative positions of stations in order to retain the map structures. We design energy terms for these requirements and solve an optimization system to visualize metro maps based on the start and the destination.
