In particular, a third-order upwind finite difference scheme was chosen to solve the Navier-Stokes and energy equations. In the ranges of the Reynolds number Re from 20 to 50 and Rayleigh number Ra up to 31 000, several roll structures were predicted. In the steady flow at high Re and low Ra after the initial transient the longitudinal rolls possess spanwise symmetry and grow regularly to a fully developed state as it proceeds downstream. While in the time periodic flow at low Re and high Ra the rolls may tilt towards the right side wall and the flow is asymmetric or they may tilt to both sides and are symmetric, depending on the particular case studied. This roll tilting causes the rolls to terminate as they encounter the side walls. Meanwhile, new space is provided in the region near the other side of the duct or near the central vertical plane for the generation of new cells. It is also noted that the rolls are wavy in axial direction. Moreover, the rolls change their sizes during moving downstream and no fully developed state can be discerned. Based on the present data, correlating equations for the onset of convection and Hopf bifurcation were proposed. In order to know the two most important properties, ie permeability and tensile property, of the multilayer films, we examined model predictions and the properties of the individual component layers to provide an efficient method to design desired multilayer structures. The series model was employed for predicting permeability; there is good agreement between experimental data and this model for predicting both gas and water vapor permeabilities of three-layer films with various thickness fractions of polyamide 6 (PA-6). We can also predict the parameters of the constitutive equation, which described the plastic deformation of the three-layer films, from those of the individual component layers, with particularly high accuracy by using the additive rule. However, there was a larger discrepancy between the model and experimental data at high crosshead speeds due to the generation of heat during deformation. Rheological and thermal properties(1997-04-01) ;Huang, CC ;Chang, FC ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryEpoxy resin (EEW = 2060) has been demonstrated to be an efficient reactive compatibilizer for the incompatible polymer blends of polyamide-6,6 (PA66) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PET). Processability improvement has been achieved by reducing die swell and melt fracture during blending extrusion. Reactions involved in this three-component system are very complex but only the coupling reactions between epoxy and PBT and PA66 endgroups are considered essential. This epoxy resin is more compatible with PET than with PA66 but the reactivity of the former is slower than that of the latter. Additionally, PET has a lower melting temperature than that of PA66; this epoxy resin therefore has the first chance to react with PBT, then with PA66, at the interface. Certain mixed copolymers, epoxy-co-PBT-co-PA66, are expected to be formed and to anchor at the interface. These mixed copolymers are believed to be the major contributor in improving the compatibility of incompatible PA66/PBT blends. A thin uncollimated TiN layer is deposited first at low substrate temperature and sputtering power. This layer has poor step coverage and high resistivity, but acts as a crystallographic seed layer for the subsequent collimated TiN layer deposited at high substrate temperature and sputtering power. The TiN layer stack is deposited sequentially without vacuum break. The resulting TiN layer has a low resistivity of 72.25 mu Omega cm, high <111> preferred orientation, and improved bottom coverage in sub-quarter-micrometer contact holes and trenches. Therefore, ISO/IEC MPEG started the IP protection standardization project on MPEG-4 a few years ago. A basic IPMP (Intellectual Property Protection and Management) structure and interface was first defined in its System part. In this paper, we will first outline the MPEG-4 basic IP protection mechanism and then describe our simulation of an MPEG-4 IPMP system. An IP protection application is constructed using the MPEG-4 system software - IM1 (Implementation Model one). This application includes a client-server program, in which a client can request the keys from a server in a secure way using a hierarchical key distribution structure.Item type:Item, A novel two-stage channel estimation method for wireless communications(2004-06-01) ;Lin, WJ ;Lin, TT ;Huang, CC ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringIn this paper, we proposed a novel two-stage channel estimation (2S-CE) method. In contrast to conventional channel estimation methods, this method makes the maximum use of the information contributed by the known data in every transmission burst. In the first stage, the least-squares (LS) algorithm was used to estimate the channel impulse response (CIR) based on the normal training sequence. Then the maximum channel memory was estimated and used to locate the uncorrupted data in the guard interval. In the second stage, the uncorrupted data together with the normal training sequence were sent to the LS algorithm again to obtain the fine-tuned CIR. To verify the efficiency of the proposed 2S-CE method, both a theoretical analysis and computer simulations have been done. Computer simulation results confirm the analysis results and demonstrate that the proposed 2S-CE method outperforms a conventional single-stage channel estimation method.Item type:Item, An unified vehicle supervising and traffic information system(1996) ;Wang, SI ;Huang, CC ;交大名義發表 ;電信工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityAn unified vehicle supervising and traffic information system architecture is proposed in this paper. This new architecture integrates different system functions such as digital mobile radio communication, vehicle monitoring, traffic information collection, dynamic route guidance, and automatic toll collection into a single system architecture. A vehicle communication and ranging system is the radio interface of the architecture. Packetized data transmission through this radio interface can be used to measure received signal delay by pulse ranging. An uplink message from a vehicle containing vehicle speed information and the measured delay are both sent to a traffic control and information center for vehicle monitoring. The center estimates vehicle location, calculates average traveling time and average congestion level for each road link accordingly. Vehicle monitoring information and the estimated traffic condition can be offered to either the public or dispatching centers. A toll collection center will be able to automatically charge a vehicle through the monitoring process. Furthermore, a vehicle will be able to access the traffic control and information center to obtain its own dynamic route guidance information, and each vehicle can be guided in such a way to optimize the overall road traffic. Finally, we suggest two methods which use the infrastructure of existing digital cellular systems (GSM and IS-95) to implement the proposed system architecture.Item type:Item, A low TF GMSK modem architecture with joint symbol timing recovery and frequency offset compensation(1996) ;Huang, YL ;Huang, CC ;交大名義發表 ;電信工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityThis paper records our work in developing a GMSK modem with joint symbol timing recovery and frequency offset compensation capability. The received RF signal is first down converted to a low IE and then converted to complex baseband by a digital complex sampler. This baseband signal is then frequency discriminated and passed through a digital filter which in fact performs a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). In other words, we apply an FFT algorithm on the frequency discriminated baseband signal in order to estimate symbol timing error and frequency offset simultaneously. The frequency offset can be estimated from the DC component of the FFT and the symbol timing error can be estimated from the phase angle of the FFT at a specified frequency which is equal to an integral multiple of half the bit rate. These two estimated parameters are then used for symbol timing recovery and frequency offset compensation. The Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of our GMSK receiver architecture is assessed for an AWGN channel by computer simulation.Item type:Item, A new controlled adaptive prediction delta coder for wireless PCN applications(1996) ;Liu, CH ;Huang, CC ;交大名義發表 ;電信工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityA median-rate speech delta coder with low complexity is presented in this paper. It combines the features of one-step looking forward decision, syllabic companding, instantaneous companding, and adaptive prediction. This coder uses not only short-term prediction filter but also long-term prediction filter to estimate the current speech sample. The performance for this coder with and without pitch prediction is compared by computer simulation. Comparisons between the performance of this coder and the performance of CVSD are also included.
