Item type:Item, Volatile Resistive Switching Memory Based on Ag Ion Drift/Diffusion-Part II: Compact Modeling(2019-09-01) ;Wang, Wei ;Laudato, Mario ;Ambrosi, Elia ;Bricalli, AlessandroCovi, ErikaResistive-switching random access memory (RRAM) based on Cu or Ag filament is a promising selector device for high-density crosspoint arrays. These devices display high ON-OFF ratio, volatile switching, high switching speed, and long endurance, supporting the adoption in large memory arrays. However, the mechanism of volatile switching is not clear yet, which prevents the development of compact models for circuit design and simulation. Based on an extensive study of the switching mechanism, we report an analytical model that captures all electrical characteristics of the device, including switching, recovery, and their dependence on the applied voltage. We use the analytical model to simulate the circuit-level behavior of the device as long/short term memory synapse.Item type:Item, Analysis of radially convergent tracer test in a two-zone confined aquifer with vertical dispersion effect: Asymmetrical and symmetrical transports(2019-09-05) ;Huang, Ching-Sheng ;Tong, Chenchen ;Hu, Wei-Shan ;Yeh, Hund-DerYang, TaoRadially convergent tracer test (RCT) with an extraction well and a tracer injection well is commonly conducted for determining aquifer dispersivity associated with the spreading of contamination plume. A variety of analytical models for RCT have been proposed, but the effects of skin zone and vertical dispersion are rarely explored. In addition, little attention is paid to the validity of those analytical models assuming asymmetrical tracer transport (ATT) as radially symmetrical transport (RST) toward the pumping well. This study develops a new analytical model for RCT subject to the above-mentioned effects in a confined aquifer with a skin zone around the wellbore. The Laplace-domain solution of the model for a continuous or instantaneous input is developed. A finite element solution (FES) for AFT is also developed to verify the Laplace-domain solution based on RST. Results suggest ATT can be regarded as RST in predicting the breakthrough curve (BTC) at the pumping well when four quantitative conditions are met. A lumped dimensionless parameter dominates those two effects on the BTC. Both the FES and Laplace-domain solution agree with monitored concentration data from a field RCT.Item type:Item, An Analytical Solution of Groundwater Flow in Wedge-shaped Aquifers with Estuarine Boundary Conditions(2018-12-01) ;Chuang, Mo-Hsiung ;Yeh, Hund-Der ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringThe issue of the groundwater fluctuation due to tidal effect in a two-dimensional coastal leaky aquifer system has attracted much attention in recent years. The predictions of head fluctuation play an important role in dealing with groundwater managements and contaminant remediation problems in costal aquifers. This article presents a two-dimensional analytical model describing the groundwater flow in a coastal leaky aquifer of wedge shape affected by the tides and bounded by two estuarine rivers with an arbitrary included angle. The solution of the model is derived in the Polar coordinates by the Hankel transform and finite sine transform. The head fluctuation predicted by this new solution is compared with that by an existing solution for groundwater flow in a non-L shaped tidal aquifer. The groundwater fluctuation due to the joint effect of estuarine tides is explored based on the present solution. Moreover, the influences of the parameters such as diffusion (D-i), included angle (?), and tidal river coefficients (K-1, K-2) on the head fluctuation in the aquifer are also assessed and discussed. The results demonstrate that those parameters have significant effects on the head fluctuation in the leaky confined aquifer system. Moreover, the effect of D-i increases with ?, and the effects of K-1 and K-2 on the normalized amplitude and phase lag of the groundwater fluctuation are significant when both parameter values are larger than 10(-5).Item type:Item, Review of analytical models to stream depletion induced by pumping: Guide to model selection(2018-06-01) ;Huang, Ching-Sheng ;Yang, Tao ;Yeh, Hund-Der ;交大名義發表環境工程研究所Stream depletion due to groundwater extraction by wells may cause impact on aquatic ecosystem in streams, conflict over water rights, and contamination of water from irrigation wells near polluted streams. A variety of studies have been devoted to addressing the issue of stream depletion, but a fundamental framework for analytical modeling developed from aquifer viewpoint has not yet been found. This review shows key differences in existing models regarding the stream depletion problem and provides some guidelines for choosing a proper analytical model in solving the problem of concern. We introduce commonly used models composed of flow equations, boundary conditions, well representations and stream treatments for confined, unconfined, and leaky aquifers. They are briefly evaluated and classified according to six categories of aquifer type, flow dimension, aquifer domain, stream representation, stream channel geometry, and well type. Finally, we recommend promising analytical approaches that can solve stream depletion problem in reality with aquifer heterogeneity and irregular geometry of stream channel. Several unsolved stream depletion problems are also recommended.Item type:Item, Tests and analyses of a full-scale post-tensioned RCS frame subassembly(2010-11-01) ;Chou, Chung-Che ;Chen, Jun-Hen ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringA series of cyclic tests of a full-scale one-story two-bay specimen frame, a substructure of a three-story post-tensioned (PT) self-centering (SC) building using reinforced concrete columns and steel beams, were conducted in the Taiwan National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering. The objectives of the tests were: (1) to examine the connection performance, progress of damage, and strength degradation of the frame, (2) to assess the hysteretic responses of the frame subjected to various loading patterns, and (3) to study the effects of column restraints on the frame expansion. Time-history analyses of the three-story PT building subjected to the design basis earthquake (DBE) and the maximum considered earthquake (MCE) were conducted to investigate seismic demands of the proposed system. These tests confirmed the SC response of the PT frame and explored failure of the beam compression toe, which was never observed in prior tests of beam-column subassemblages. The nonlinear structural analysis computer program PISA could be used to simulate the experimental results well; time-history analyses of the three-story building showed that the proposed frame can meet seismic demands by MCE level ground motions. In this brief, we, for the first time, propose a novel test structure for the measurement of the S/D series resistance. This technique enables us to determine the individual value of the S/D series resistance resulting from the S/D contact, the S/D epigrowth fin, and the channel gate, respectively. Each device\'s S/D series resistance on different layout locations is characterized on the basis of its connection with specified S/D contact. The test structure and extraction method can be applied to monitor the process development of sub-16-nm-gate multifin bulk FinFET devices, such as the channel fin doping, the S/D epigrowth, and the S/D contact size formation.Item type:Item, Tests and analyses of a full-scale post-tensioned RCS frame subassembly(2010-11-01) ;Chou, Chung-Che ;Chen, Jun-Hen ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringA series of cyclic tests of a full-scale one-story two-bay specimen frame, a substructure of a three-story post-tensioned (PT) self-centering (SC) building using reinforced concrete columns and steel beams, were conducted in the Taiwan National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering. A variety of analytical and numerical models have been developed over the last few decades to provide a framework for understanding and quantifying the flow behavior in aquifer systems. In this review, we first briefly introduce the background of the theory of well hydraulics and the concepts, methodologies, and applications of analytical, semi-analytical, numerical and approximate methods in solving the well-hydraulic problems. We then address the subjects of current interests such as the incorporation of effects of finite well radius, wellbore storage, well partial penetration, and the presence of skin into various practical problems of groundwater flow. Furthermore, we also summarize recent developments of flow modeling such as the flow in aquifers with horizontal wells or collector wells, the capture zone delineation, and the non-Darcian flow in porous media and fractured formations. Finally, we present a comprehensive review on the numerical calculations for five well functions frequently appearing in well-hydraulic literature and suggest some topics in groundwater flow for future research.
