zh_TW
With the flourish of diverse applications, modern electronic devices are required to support a variety of system specifications defined by various application domains. As the system architecture is moving towards the multi-core scheme, the system not only demands to be highly integrated, its communication resources also have to meet diverse requirements. The communication resources are responsible for effectively transporting necessary data between processing cores and memory unit within a system. However, blindly invest the communication resource without knowing the executed application has been proved to be ineffective in optimizing resource utilization, energy efficiency, and system complexity. To attain the best performance, the design of the communication architecture and the resource management scheme need to take the characteristics of the executed application into consideration. The main goal of this project is to design and optimize the reconfigurable communication resources for application-specific multi-core systems. The key concept is to identify essential application characteristics and incorporate their impact to the design of communication resources. A top-down, cross-layer approach will be adopted to streamline the design methodology from application characterization, programming interface, communication resource coordination, to interconnect hardware architecture. This project will be executed in three years. The first year will implement a cross-layer multi-core system model to facilitate the feature analysis and result verification. The diverse design features, from application down to communication resources, will also be characterized. The second year will develop a prototype of reconfigurable communication resource. The other focus is to build links that enable the co-design and co-optimization across different layers. The third year will concentrate on integrating an overall system architecture and developing a design methodology.en_US
