亞美研究在亞洲整合型計畫-東亞連結╱全球視野：亞美研究在亞洲

Abstract

作為一個學術領域，亞美研究並不只是美國研究下的一支，而是一個跨越不同學 科、文化與地理疆界的問題意識，它與族裔、遷徒、戰爭與帝國等問題密切相關，也因 此常常與美國研究、亞洲研究、跨國與離散研究等領域抱持對話性的張力，並介入記憶、 認同、創傷等理論性的比較思辨。在這個意義上，亞美研究可以說是一門「危險的」學 科：它一方面挑戰了傳統學科不願意觸碰的領域（如創傷與離散），另一方面又處在不 同學科之界，妾身不明，而有缺乏主體性的危機感。當亞美研究跨國化之後更是如此， 因為不同的位置進入了亞美研究的想像而鬆動了原來的美國中心，而從跨國脈絡中理解 亞美想像的方式，同時也碰觸到深埋在亞洲（及其外）各地的美國性，更釋放了亞洲歷 史與國／族記憶交界處的緊張感，從而打開另一扇窗口，重新理解亞洲殖民現代性的生 成。因此，亞美研究之於亞洲學者具有多重的特殊意義，對於身處帝國夾縫與歷經現代 性創傷的台灣更是一個值得反思與介入的領域。我們期望，透過亞美研究的開展，台灣 的人文研究將可以更進一步的全球化與在地化：一方面批判性地反思台灣的歷史特殊 性，創發在地思維與理論，另一方面深入參與，乃至引領國際的研究風潮，重新測定國 際的學術範式。我們相信持續地投入資源與培育人才是必要的，透過研習營、研究參訪 與參加國際研討會等活動，我們希望持續培育亞美研究的研究人才，並且著手策畫跨國 一流國際期刊，台灣將不只可以在國際亞美研究的發展上佔有一席之地，亞美研究更可 以成為策略性場域，引導台灣人文研究走入新的階段。

Given the growing importance of Asian American studies as a transnational critical formation that has been significantly incorporated into the research of humanities in East Asian countries, and Taiwanese academia’s strength in this field, we believe that establishing a summer institute in Asian American studies may facilitate critical discussion and intellectual exchange of research on Asian America topics, help redefine the agenda of Asian American studies through Asia-based perspectives, and enable Taiwan to serve as an international platform for such a transpacific and inter-Asian inquiry. Hence, the proposed summer institute in Asian American studies is imagined to be an annual or biannual event that will bring students and scholars in East Asia and beyond to meet and discuss relevant issues and research questions that will not only advance Asian American studies but also enhance our understanding of the spaces in which the field is researched and rearticulated. Our goal is to put Taiwan on the global map of transnational studies of migration, identity formations, diaspora communities, and geocultural imaginaries.
