The present study employed the "Taiwan Social Change Survey ( TSCS)" data collected in 2014 to examine the relationship between political use of social media and civic engagement. The results show that there was a weak relationship between political use of social media and community civic engagement. However, the political use of social media was positively related to three dimensions of political civic engagement. Informational use of social media could significantly predict individual form of political civic engagement. Joining political group or fan club on social media could significantly predict collective form of political civic engagement. Commenting on information related to politics on social media could significantly predict offline political expression. Implications and recommendations for future research are also discussed. |
