dc.description.abstractWe have built a simple, inexpensive, mechanical model of a finite Josephson junction consisting of a pendulum array along a rubber string, mounted on a metal frame. The pendulum array is driven at a constant torque by a gear connected with the string.This model has an equation of motion that is formally identical to the time-independent Josephson equation. We analyze the critical current Ic that can be carried by a Josephson junction as a function of an applied magnetic field. We find that the results are in excellent agreement with those calculated by Owen and Scalapino using a digital computer and with those observed by Matisoo in experiment, respectively.In addition, we have found that behavior of the Meissner effect and vortex structure in the junction barrier are easily demonstrated.In particular,the dynamics of the transistion between different vortex modes can also be investigated.We have made a detail analysis of it and try to provided a simple model for self-resonant modes with a bias voltage and a zero external magnetic field in Josephson junctions.en_US
