摘要: | Because of the increasing consumption of tiles for exterior wall finishing, there has been a rise in the frequency of inspection due to safety and aesthetic reasons. Without quantitative measurement of fine craftsmanship, inspectors come up with subjective methods of measuring tiling quality, thereby, varying considerably in determining quality of tiling works.
This paper proposes a feasibility study of a tile assessment system prototype and a crack detection technique to evaluate and assess tiling works using mobile devices. The mobile devices used to capture the images includes DSLR Camera mounted on a tripod, hand-held DSLR camera and smart phone. The images are processed and run through the systems to obtain their geometric characteristics and other anti-aesthetic defects to subsequently determine the quality of tiling work.
This experiment effectively confirms that image captures using mobiles devices are as much capable of delivering similar results as less-mobile devices, thereby, easing mobility whilst capturing photos in the construction site.
