When running smart living applications requiring intensive computing power in a cloud, a proper resource management algorithm is required to guarantee the performance of the applications. The paper presents a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based resource management algorithm, GASdv2, for allocating cloud-based virtual machines on physical machines. GASdv2 analyzes the utilization of hardware resources (CPU, memory, etc.) and generates an optimized distribution strategy to obtain better performance of the cloud running applications that requires intensive computing power and/or memory capacity.en_US
