The Wording and Writing of Hakka Language for a special issue contains three articles and two research notes. The three articles are Lee Liang-shu's analysis of contemporary Hakka prose with an example of five Hakka writers in Miaoli, Taiwan; Wu Chung-chieh and Chang Hsueh-nian's use of contemporary linguistic knowledge to identify and analyze clues of Hakka language in historical texts; and Chiu Hsiao-ling's analysis of the use of chengyu (i.e., a type of traditional Chinese idioms) in the Hakka bible to investigate how Hakka words convey the meanings of chengyu while retaining its linguistic effects. The two research notes are written in two Hakka writing systems. One is by Chiu Chih-wei, who used the Han-romanization system to write in the Sixian dialect of Taiwanese Hakka; the Hakka Pha̍k-fa-sṳ romanization was used. Lee Jung-feng used Chinese characters to write in Hakka about the process of how a Hakka drama creation team formed.en_US
