We present our studies on the temperature effect of the grating recorded in a phenathrenequinone (PQ) doped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) photopolymer. The characteristics for recording a strong single grating have been studied. We find that the main limitation of full utilization of the refractive index modulation of the hologram is caused by the scattering effect. Experimental demonstration of using dark enhancement to enhance diffraction efficiency of a grating is presented.en_US
