Thoughts Flow; the Hands Draw is a picture book based on my very own experiences. It conveys my viewpoints on life and presents some amusing anecdotes out of those ideas. There is no climatic plot but real personal experiences in this work. Without serial description or logical reasoning, this book is filled with intuitive responses and shifting thoughts. I composed my work in the forms of comics and picture book, and I adopted the linear technique to draw pages of black-and-white imagery. This picture book is comprised of three main, long stories, which are “Life Game,” “Go to Work,” and “I Am a Warrior.” In “Life Game,” I aim to express that life is like a game—there is no need to be ecstatic about our gains, and it is useless to cry over spilt milk. Everything and “meanings” are just products constructed by human society, and life is, after all, a game. “Go to Work” points out that very often, we need to make abundant efforts or preparation to complete one single mission. Most of the pages here are to depict the process of how a pilot puts on his suit for the purpose of controlling his robot well; the pilot begins his day with the ritual dressing process. In “I Am a Warrior,” I emphasize that eventually, we have to “live” in this competitive society. Thus, endless and cyclic fights happen. No matter whether the warrior has found the goal and meaning of his fights, he has to fight until the end of his life. “Strive to live” is an unavoidable choice. Inbetween the three stories are my personal life experiences and dialogues or chats, which serve as pauses after each long story. I sincerely hope this work illustrates well my thoughts and philosphy of life and that my audience will have fun reading it and be sympathetic to what I have tried hard to “draw.” |
