摘要: 本论文在理论上及实验上探讨掺铒光纤光放大器的特性及应用。藉由均匀
加宽模型的理论计算,可以得到光纤光放大器的增益及杂讯的一般特性,
并可提供在各种泵激架构及参数下设计光放大器时之参考。此外,对于在
未受泵激的掺铒光纤中传播的光信号的衰减及萤光光谱的产生详加探讨,
并将证明当掺铒光纤足够短时,萤光光谱的谱线外型与散射截面谱线的外
型线相近。在实验方面,以倍频钕雅克雷射做为泵激光源,可产生高增益
、高饱和输出功率之掺铒光纤光放大器及宽频带波长可调掺铒光纤环型雷
射。最后,吾人开发各型掺铒光纤光放大器,并用于中继及无中继光纤现
场试用系统、长途陆上光纤传输系统、海底光缆系统及光信号分配系统中

In this thesis, we study the characteristics and
applications of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) both
theoretically and experimentally. By using a homogeneous
broadened model, the general behavior of gain and noise
figure of EDFAs can be obtained from theoretical simulation
results, which provide useful information for EDFA design
with various pumping configurations and parameters. Also,
the optical signals propagate in an erbium-doped fiber
without pump has been investigated thoroughly, and the
attenuation of optical signal and the generation of
fluorescence power spectrum can be observed. Furthermore, we
will show that the emission cross section profile of EDF can be
obtained from this fluorescence spectrum when the EDF is short
enough. A high gain, high saturation power amplifier and a
widely tunable EDF ring laser pumped by a frequency-
doubled Nd:YAG laser at 532 nm are demonstrated. Finally,
various types of EDFAs have been developed, and their
applications in field trial system with and without optical
repeater, long-haul terrestrial operating systems, undersea
optical cable systems and optical distribution systems will
be reported.
