In this dissertation, various power control algorithms (PCAs) are proposed and evaluated. The effects of imperfect power control on the system performance are also investigated. A stepwise removal algorithm (SRA) had been proposed previously. In this dissertation, a new centralized PCA is presented and shown to have a better performance than the SRA algorithm with only a negligible increase in computational complexity. We also investigated two classes of distributed PCAs in which only local information is used to adjust transmitting power. However, a normalization procedure is required in each iteration to determine transmitting power and thus these algorithms are not fully distributed. We further present a fully distributed power control (FDPC) algorithm. This algorithm can be shown to achieve CIR balancing with probability one. Moreover, numerical results reveal the FDPC scheme performs the best among the distributed PCAs studied in previous works. For a real system, any PCA suffers from some imperfections which can increase outage probability. The effects of imperfections on the system performance are also investigated in this dissertation. |
