摘要: 雖然最初ATM技術主要用於公眾網路之傳輸服務,然而ATM技術提供的低傳 輸延遲、高頻寬傳輸率、以及保證服務品質等優點則使其為桌上型系統所 重視並視為高速區域網路應用之解決方案。而對桌上型工作站或個人電腦 而言,擁有一在其作業環境下操作之ATM網路介面卡及相關之驅動程式與 應用軟體則是系統與ATM網路連結時所不可或缺的。而本論文的主要目的 即是在發展一使用於Sun工作站上,以SBus為系統介面之ATM網路介面卡驅 動程式。其主要功能是負責接受並轉換作業系統之I/O請求成為操作ATM網 路介面卡之控制命令,以提供工作站與ATM網路連結之能力。此外,在設 計驅動程式時,我們採用了STREAMS模式設計驅動程式之系統服務介面。 其目的即是希望利用STREAMS架構定義之標準化之系統服務介面,提供一 模組化且易於整合之ATM網路介面卡驅動與控制機制,以作為未來進一步 設計與研究ATM相關應用議題(如LAN Emulation、IP-ATM)之發展基礎。 Although ATM was originally developed for use in the public network transmission ecvironment, it has been widely adopted by desk-top application vendors as a sloution for high-speed LANs. Connecting a workstation or a personal computer to an ATM network will require anATM network Interface Card(NIC) and appropriate driver as well as softwares operating under the target system. In this thesis we develop a device driver of the SBus-based ATM adaptor card of the Sun workstation running Solaris 2.4 Operatimg System.The purpose of the driver is to convert the requests received from operating system into commands that control the operation of the ATM adaptor card and provide the capability of data transmission over the ATM networks. Besides,the driver is implemented as a STREAMS driver that presents a standard service interface to accommodate modular development and easy integration of further ATM applications, such as LAN Emulation and IP-ATM.
