摘要: 許多液晶配向的技術早已廣泛的應用在液晶顯示科技領域,最普遍的方法就是直接磨刷玻璃基板上的聚亞醯胺薄膜,這種接觸式的配向方法有其缺點,如表面殘留髒顆粒或是產生靜電等,都會造成產品的不良率,因此其它非接觸式的配向技術就吸引了許多人投入研究,如光配向(紫外光、高功率雷射)與離子束轟擊配向等,在本論文中將會說明我們在離子束轟擊配向上的研究成果。 我們利用離子覆膜機所產生的離子束轟擊鍍在玻璃基板上的聚亞醯胺薄膜,實驗中我們改變離子束入射基板的角度及轟擊的時間來觀察液晶配向的效果差異,如預傾角、極角定向強度與樣品的對比度。 此外,我們架設了一套可以量測極軸方位角定向強度的裝置,希望能進一步比較不同配向方法間的配向性質,如傳統磨刷配向、離子束轟擊配向之間的配向效果比較。
Aligned liquid crystals are widely used in LCDs technology. The pervasive method used in aligning liquid crystal is rubbing a Polyimide (PI) film. It belongs to a contact method and this kind of method produces some drawbacks. Non-contact methods, such as polarized UV radiation of PI film and ion-beam bombardment on PI film are all attractive new methods. Here we report our study on ion-beam bombarded PI film. We have used an ion coater to bombard the spin coated PI films on glass substrates. Order is induced by exposure to an ion-beam because unfavourably oriented linkages of atoms are selectively destroyed. During our experiment, we have varied the bombarding time and the angle of incidence. We then analyze the effects of these two variables on the liquid crystal alignment properties such as anchoring strength and pretilt angle. Furthermore, we have set up instruments to measure the Polar and Azimuthal Anchoring strength. By analyzing these alignment properties we can compare the alignment properties among various alignment methods such as ion-beam bombarded PI film and rubbed PI films.
