This thesis aims at the construct of a music performing assistant interface based on brain waves of the performer, making relative sound effects to interact with the piece, which is performed. In general, there are many parameters, which are hard to notate in conventional notations, for example, reverb, real-time interactive sound effects and other sound processing. It is notable that compare to classical instrumentations, contemporary instrumentation is obviously different in depth; starting from the development of tape recording, sound processing is dealt not only by play and stop, but being manipulated by reversing, cutting, collaging and other techniques to perform extraordinary sounds. Since the development of compositions from various interfaces and real-time interactive performances are achieving perfection, this thesis propose a music performing assistant interface – EEG, an interface which reads the brain waves of a performer – to demonstrate a new way for contemporary music to connect performer and composer.
