Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is a technique for reliability management. This technique is applied to a vehicle electronic regulater by evaluating its failure modes and causes of failure to predict the potential failure in the system. The combination of this technology and experience of people in identifying the foreseeable failure modes of the system can help plan for failure prevention. The purpose of this paper is to determine the degrees of severity of the failures of the critical components of the vehicle electronic regulator in the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA). The criticality values of each component’s failure modes have been calculated via Criticality Analysis and Criticality Matrix diagram. The failure effects of the electronic components are sorted into different levels according to their severity of failure. The information obtained can thus identify the critical components of the vehicle electronic regulator so that practical strategies can be proposed to improve the performance of the system. As a result, the reliability of the vehicle electronic regulator can be enhanced and the availability of alternators can be improved. Furthermore this research also used the reliability prediction method and production reliability acceptance testing flow chart to assess the reliability of the vehicle electronic regulator. The results show that the regulator can achieve the require reliability. |
