Item type:Item, Tuning the Characteristics of Surface Plasmon Polariton Nanolasers by Tailoring the Dispersion Relation(2017-01-01) ;Lu, Tien-Chang ;Chou, Yu-Hsun ;Hong, Kuo-Bin ;Chung, Yi-ChengLin, Tzy-RongNanolasers with ultra-compact footprint are able to provide high intensity coherent light, which have various potential applications in high capacity signal processing, biosensing, and sub-wavelength imaging. Among various nanolasers, those lasers with cavities surrounded with metals have shown to have superior light emission properties due to the surface plasmon effect providing better field confinement capability and allowing exotic light-matter interaction. In this talk, we report robust ultraviolet ZnO nanolaser by using silver (Ag) [1] and aluminum (Al) [2] to strongly shrink the mode volume. The nanolasers operated at room temperature and even high temperature (353K) shows several distinct features including an extremely small mode volume, large Purcell factor and group index. Comparison of characteristics between Ag-and Al-based will also be made.Item type:Item, Metal for Plasmonic Ultraviolet Laser: Al or Ag?(2017-11-01) ;Chou, Yu-Hsun ;Hong, Kuo-Bin ;Chung, Yi-Cheng ;Chang, Chun-TseChou, Bo-TsunSurface plasmon polariton (SPP) nanolasers have recently emerged as promising candidates for generating a coherent light source in nanophotonic integration circuits. The properties of SPP nanolasers, such as group velocity, mode area, modulation speed, and threshold performance, can be manipulated using a dispersion relation. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of SPP nanolasers operated near and far from the SP frequency. Our results indicated that SPP nanolaser performance can be significantly influenced by manipulating the dispersion relation.Item type:Item, Low-Frequency Noise Performance of Al-Doped ZnO Nanorod Photosensors by a Low-Temperature Hydrothermal Method(2017-08-01) ;Wang, Zi-Hao ;Yu, Hsin-Chieh ;Yang, Chih-Chiang ;Yeh, Hsin-TingSu, Yan-KuinIn this paper, we developed a simple hydrothermal method to synthesize vertically aligned ZnO:Al nanorods (NRs) to fabricate a UV photodetector (PD) on a seed layer/glass substrate. The photo-to-dark current ratio of the ZnO: Al NR PD was approximately 1.4 x 10(3) under 1-V bias and UV light irradiation (380 nm). The calculated responsivity of the fabricated PD was 181 A . W-1, and the UV-to-visible rejection ratio of the PD at 1-V applied bias was 1.51 x 10(3). In addition, flicker noise dominated the noise of the ZnO: Al NR PD. The noise-equivalent power and normalized detectivity of the ZnO:Al NR PD were 1.17 x 10(-11) W and 4.03 x 10(12) cm . Hz(0.5)W(-1), respectively.Item type:Item, Photoluminescence Determination of Aluminum Using Glutathione-Capped Gold Nanoclusters(2016) ;Baig, Mirza Muhammad Fahad ;Chen, Cheng-Tai ;Chen, Yu-Chie ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryAluminum is a common metal that is used extensively in daily life. However, over-exposure to aluminum may result in nervous systemrelated diseases. Thus, it is important to develop a rapid sensing method that can be used to screen samples. In this study, glutathione-capped gold nanoclusters with bright photoluminescence were demonstrated to be effective sensing probes for aluminum ions. The photoluminescence of glutathione-capped gold nanoclusters was enhanced in the presence of aluminum ions. The results show that glutathione-capped gold nanoclusters selectively determined aluminum ions in samples prepared in aqueous ammonium acetate buffer (pH 5.5). The acetate maintains the pH and serves as a chelating agent to interact with non-analyte metal ions. Therefore, other metal ions have little effect on the photoluminescence of the glutathione-capped gold nanoclusters. The photoluminescence of the glutathione-capped gold nanoclusters was switched on in samples containing aluminum ions. The selective sensing was based on chelation between the aluminum ions and ligands on the surface of the glutathione-capped gold nanoclusters. The limit of detection was estimated to be as low as approximately 100 nM. The method was used to determine the concentration of aluminum ions in lake water and soil extracts.Item type:Item, High-operation-temperature Aluminum-based SPP Nanolasers(2016) ;Chou, Yu-Hsun ;Hong, Kuo-Bin ;Chou, Bo-Tsun ;Wu, Yen-MoShih, Jheng-HongMetal-insulator-semiconductor structures has widely adopted in plasmonics lasers. However, we found that the insulator is not necessary if permittivity combination of laser structures is properly designed. Single-mode laser operation was demonstrate in devices without artificial insulator layers. Moreover, the operation temperature can achieve to 353 K.Item type:Item, Item type:Item, Characterization of Hot Cracking Due to Welding of High-Strength Aluminum Alloys(2012) ;Chang, C. C. ;Chen, C. L. ;Wen, J. Y. ;Cheng, C. M.Chou, C. P.The "Spot-Varestraint Test'' was applied to assess the sensitivity of three aluminum alloys-A2024-T351, A2219-T87, and A7050-T6 to hot cracking from welding. The results indicate that the number of cracks increases with increasing augmented strain. This phenomenon occurs in both the fusion and the heat-affected zones. The number of thermal cycles also has a significant influence on the heat-affected zone; the number of hot cracks increases, especially in the heat-affected zone of the metal weld, with increasing number of thermal cycles. The compositions of these three alloys show that A2024 and A7050 have similar tendencies to be subject to hot cracking, greater than A2219. With increasing number of thermal cycles, the hot cracks show the same tendency, A2024 > A7050 > 2219.
