Abstract: Traffic systems are difficult to be controlled with a simple linear algorithm because of theirhighly-nonlinear natures with different vehicle types, speeds, lengths, and flow rates; moreover, they are time-varied especially in urban areas and industrial parks with high-density employees. This paper will present a traffic flow control strategy with a fuzzy and adaptive algorithm to control traffic signals at an intersection to effectively improve the traffic flow rate [1]. With the recent development of networking technologies, this paper further integrates the proposed adaptive-fuzzy (AN) control and the multi-agent system as the proposed adaptive fuzzy multi-agent system (AF agent) to further improve the flow rate of traffic networks. Results with the VISSIM simulator indicate that the present approach is feasible in modern traffic network management.
