The thesis is focus on the intangible link between water and human, and trying to explore it from different perspectives as culture, matter, immanence and spirit of place. The design works are like a medium, letting people can perceive and reveal the will of water. First of all, I study the history and the context of water, and frame the different values between eastern and western culture. Under this context, I consider about the matter of water in chapter one, and figuring out how technology change human’s cognition; Chapter two is talking about the immanence of water, and trying to establish a way to make a public space can own monumentality and daily phenomenon at the same time, showing the spirit of the place successfully. In chapter three, I focus on how several places connected by water, thus, I redefine the meaning of water to places in terms of historical memory, industry, ecology and so on, to make it become a power for urban regeneration. The point of the thesis is bringing up the relationship between human, architecture and water rather than concluding the form design of water element. So that we can truly approach the essence of water, and get the bigger vision and better attitude to face the contemporary issues.
