This study aims to examine the factors affecting the cyclists’ riding behaviors on the bikeway. Speed of the cyclists as well as the left lateral clearance kept by the cyclists is measured as the indicating variables. Numbers of passing cars and motorcycles at the neighboring lane are also considered. It is firstly found that there is a significant difference between the cycling speed and all characteristics of the cyclists, namely gender, age, helmet wearing, and double riding. However, parallel cycling is not a significant factor influencing cycling speed. Secondly, there is a significant difference between all external environmental factors and the lateral clearance kept by the cyclists. The environmental factors include width and division type of the bikeways. The wider the bikeway is, the greater the left lateral clearance will be kept by the cyclist. When riding on the bikeway with same width, cyclists tend to maintain a greater left lateral clearance on the bikeway with barrier separation than with marking separation. Furthermore, the number of neighboring cars and motorcycles is found to have a significant impact on the lateral clearance kept by the cyclists. Nevertheless, no significant statistical evidence of the external environmental factors affecting cycling speed is found.
