Traditional Digital Signal Processing (DSP) programs are usually various according to specific embedded systems, i.e., I/O handling mechanisms, memory management policies or hardware components. In addition, resource competition occurs while multiple algorithms executing simultaneously on a system-on-chip (Soc). eXpressDsp Algorithm Interoperability Standard (XDAIS) was proposed by Texas Instruments (TI). The XDAIS can support interoperability, compatibility as well as reusability across environments for DSP programs. TI also evolved DaVinci Technology applying to XDAIS. The technology provides a complete solution for advanced implementation of multimedia products. However, it is a challenge to make a XDAIS-compliant program. While encapsulating algorithms to follow XDAIS standards will encounter difficulties frequently. On the other hand, the developers are concerned about the overheads induced by XDAIS and DaVinci Technology. In the study, we attempt to encapsulate a H.264 encoder with XDAIS and examine it on the DaVinci DM6446 dual-core platform. Therefore, we anticipate to introduce encapsulation techniques as well as to thoroughly understand the Technology for industries and academies in Taiwan. |
