本研究在探討被視為科技業的「明日之星」之微型投影技術及產品應用發展趨勢。目前微型投影已整合光機電技術並快速發展中，隨著微型投影技術持續提升以及晶片、模組體積縮小的發展趨勢下，微型投影機之應用範圍已從單機的應用市場擴散至內建於可攜式行動裝置上，是具有高度商業價值的產業。目前微型雷射投影已被市場研究機構視為下一世代的殺手級應用產品，被公認為最有商業價值的新技術開發領域，一旦微型投影機此產業成熟，將對包括手機在內的消費性行動電子產品生態產生重大變化，即將是人類生活的便利上的一大進步。因應網路科技發達，部落格、個人相簿、影音共享網站林立，瀏覽影片或是影像成為現代人日常生活重要的一環。國內外已引發許多大廠的關注與投入並積極策劃與佈局此明日之星之產業，各種行動設備製造商都將可能受惠於微型投影機帶來的應用商機，如攝錄影機、數位相機、筆記型電腦、多媒體播放器、PDA、遊戲機、玩具，甚至是用於汽車、醫療、工業和軍事應用的智慧型顯示器等等。故這個產業從無到有，將會有很大的商機並迅速發展。
