Internet is characterized as multi-national, multi-media, interactive, and is susceptible of a variety of hardware platforms. Almost every country is busy constructing its national telecommunications infrastructure. This trend led to the enhancement of Internet technologies and the spread of new applications. Because Internet users only need to pay minimal local circuit charge to access information throughout the world, the number of worldwide Internet subscribers increases exponentially. Consequently, Internet is recognized as the fourth major communication media following television, radio broadcasting and newspaper publishing.Accompanying with the merging of computer, communication and consumer electronic technologies, Internet is gradually making impacts on our activities in the global society; our interaction with information and with our selves; and even our civilization progress. Internet brought to us new business opportunities and market potentials. Nevertheless, out-of-dated government policies and regulations have become obstacles leading towards the information era. This research investigated the development trend and opportunities of Internet, and the major impacting factors on it. The purpose was to recommend an information- friendly environment, in which information technology can proliferate, and our society can prosper.
