Abstract The objective of this research is to study the seismic behavior of steel beam to SRC(Steel Reinforced Concrete)column connections through a series of cyclic loading test of full-scale specimens. The purpose of using the SRC column is to take the advantages of its larger stiffness and stronger compressive strength. The major parameter investigated in this study is the influence of the flexural strength ratio between the steel shape within in SRC column and the steel beam on the seismic behavior of the beam-column connection. A new type of hoop reinforcement in the beam-column joint is also studied. A total of three full-scaled specimens were tested in this study. All specimens were designed to meet the strong-column weak-beam requirement. The experimental results showed that the steel beams of all three specimens developed satisfactory plastic rotation capacity. The test results also suggested that the new type of hoop reinforcement in the beam-column joint can provide sufficient confinement of the concrete at the beam-column joint.
