Augmented reality displays digital information about user’s local environment in real time, this feature makes it a suitable technology to provide travel assistance. When integrated with games, the augmented reality environment might possess the potential of enabling user to enjoy a journey where interacting simultaneously with both virtual and real objects is possible. Previous studies related to tourism and gaming merely discuss system development or path navigation, but there is a lack of studied results on user’s perception and behavior. The aim of this paper is to explore how the different travel styles and the reality-based game environment might impact subjects’ travel experience and perceived value. An experimental approach was managed to collect the data. Two travel styles were generated through a rigorous user profiling procedure, they were named as In-depth traveler and Travel spot visitor respectively. In-depth traveler prefers obtaining new knowledge during traveling, while Travel spot visitor focuses on the interaction with their companions. 64 subjects were recruited, and 60 of them had completed the experiment procedure. The result shows that reality-based game environment provides better travel experience and enriches perceived value. People with different travel styles have different experiences and values. More suggestions for travel and leisure experience design are presented in this paper. |
