Past experiences have deep impacts on learning. When we think over something, we usually do it base on past experiences. Gaming experiences may also influence how a player learning to play. Player’s gaming experiences will affect the player’s view for a phenomenon or an object, and it will affect player’s learning process and behavior. In this thesis, I design three games as experimental platforms to find out how gaming experiences affect the learning processes and behavior in game. The players’ eye movement data when learning new games were collected, along with observations and interviews, are used to analyze the learning process. To be more specific, we study how players with different kind of gaming experiences behave accordingly in learning. Results show that players with different gaming experiences are distinct in several aspects of learning new games, and the differences in expectation about games are the major causes. In the light of experimental results, we propose learning models for people with different gaming experiences.
