Since Simon Fraser University took the initiative by starting the World Soundscape Project (WSP), researches regarding soundscape has been emerging worldwide and soon becoming an important academic research. In the process of composing, composers began to develop soundscape works using the unique preservation and importance of individual sounds. Because of the WSP, awareness of the importance of sound reservation has been prompted in Taiwan. Academic researches of the diversity of sound culture in Taiwan and the usability of such materials in composing has also been conducted. The main purpose of the compositions is to record and simulate the scenery and appearance of the five cities in Taiwan (Taipei, Hsinpei, Taichung, Tainan & Kaosiung) and to create a 3D space field between reality and virtuality by using two kinds of extreme crescendo – found sound and abstract sound. The compositions are then presented as an eight-channeled music piece accompanied by visual effects which furthermore enhances the imagination of the audience, inviting them to a brief journey into the vivid and exotic heart of Taiwan. The results not only shows people the beauty of Taiwan, but also let people use their own ears to "hear" these abundant and unique sounds. |
