All substances can be personified within the world of animation so that we can identify the boundary between reality and virtual world. From the experience of creating products the author find that design is started from finding out problems and the problems are often from the inconvenience of users’ operation in the real world. In the past years, with this real world thinking the author used to design products on considering people’s requirements of using products, but ignored another possibility of design of the virtual world. Thus, in this graduate design project for Master degree, the author tried to dim the line between reality and virtual life by creating a series of innovative furniture designs which can move autonomously. In this design project, in order to make a part of the furniture moved freely, the author limited the movements of other segments on the furniture. The purpose of designing the furniture is freeing the operation of one part and fitting with the other portions. Combining the image of freedom and birds, the author created three designs: Partial Freedom-Yama, Partial Freedom-Cable and Partial Freedom-Tip. Finally, this project discovered the relationship between freedom and product design through the process of manufacturing the design works and also clarified if the design really freed the furniture itself. |
