The aim of this study is to investigate the competitiveness of precision optical components industry in Taiwan. The precision optical components are the midstream of optical industry, which means manufacturers of lenses, prisms, mirrors, filters and various lenses. The optical components manufacturers in Taiwan has been gradually entering the international market, but also facing competition from companies all over the world. How to surpass ourselves again in original superiority? How to make the optical manufacturers become the important role in the global logistic management and supply chain management? Through the features of optical components industry, the context of the development of Taiwanese optical components industry, and the deep understanding of the relevant manufacturers’ operating strategies and business models, we explore the competitiveness of the optical components industry and its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the future. The industry competitive advantages of China are stable and basic optical research talent, wealth of raw materials, low labor costs; of Japan, are the technology of optical design, precision manufacturing process, and the key materials; of Taiwan, are the critical integrated abilities and manufacturing process management capabilities. Taiwan, China and Japan have similar Confucian culture background, while Taiwan and China have the advantages of similarities in race, culture and language. In addition, Taiwan is the most friendly partner of Japan. If we can integrate the competitive advantages of Taiwan, China and Japan, it will make maximum profit for each other. In terms of market development, supply of raw materials, technology upgrades and labor supply, they all can be more efficient. This is no doubt the best choice for industrial development. Taiwanese optical components manufacturers should broaden their vision to seek the opportunity for mutually beneficial cooperation, enlarge the market scale together and make profit for each other.
