This research aims at analyzing future development of Taiwan’s automobile industry of body electronics by utilizing an industrial portfolio analytical model. Based on the analysis, attempts are made to provide suggestions to the government for innovative strategies in developing individual sectors of the automotive body electronics industry. The analytical framework of this research is based on an industrial portfolio analytical model, which consists of two dimensions - Taiwan’s industrial supply chain and industrial life cycle. In this research, literature review, expert interview, and questionnaire are used for information search and analysis as well as data collection, and quantitative data generated from questionnaires are analyzed by both parametric and nonparametric techniques of statistical methods. It is obtained from the industrial portfolio analysis that Taiwan’s automotive body electronics industry is, in terms of industrial value chain and industrial life cycle, currently at the fabrication phase and between the start-up stage and the growth stage, respectively, and in the next 5 years, shall head toward between the fabrication phase and the market phase and develop into the growth stage, respectively. While industrial portfolio results reveal the strategic positions and future direction of industrial development, this research also systemizes the industrial innovation requirements and corresponding policy instruments for future strategic developments. A clear understanding of policy direction and strategic resource allocation of the industry for the government and Taiwan’s automotive body electronics industry is that three innovation resources - technology know-how, research and development, and market information, should be established in the near future.
